964 Rear Caliper question
 

I went to order new pads recently and only just learned that having the early 964, means that front and rear pads are different... but that on a later 964, they utilise the same pads front and rear.

Does anyone know if the rear calipers from a later 964, are a direct bolt in for my early 964?

Sorry if this is a repeat question, but after a half hour of searching couldn't quite find what I was after... (getting too old I guess)

964 came w/ 3 different rear calipers
v1 2 44mm pistons
v2 4 28/30 pistons, these use the same pads as the front which is the same as 930
v3 4 30/34 pistons, these came on RS and t. and use the same pads as v2

the 4 piston rears( except the ones from a turbo) are a bolt on w/ the stock rotors.

The down side of this is the f/r bias deteriorates, so a less aggressive or no p/v would be used

OK, so V2 is what I need.

You'll get better bias if you can find 964RS rears, regular 993 rears are the same as the 964RS rears. All use the same pads as the fronts

early RS looks the same as 964 v2, late 964RS looks the same as regular 993 rear

yep

w/ the 993 rears and stock fronts your bias goes to 1.547, ideal is a little lower ~1.491 but better than what you have now 1.643 or would have w/ v2 964 1.692

Calipers are here... just have to clean and inspect to see if they need new seals and/or pistons... To be sure, these 993 rear calipers have a 30mm and a 34mm piston right?

Yes, they also use the same pad as the 064 4 piston rears and 964 front

Were the 993 front calipers an upgrade over 964?

yes, but it's more involved to fit them
to fit 993 front calipers to a 964

first you need to decide which wheel carriers you will use
964 steel wheel carrier & obtain a caliper adapter from Rennline or VCI or such uses 928S4 32x304 rotor
or
964t/RS steel wheel carrier, advantage no caliper adapter and use 928 S4 solid 32x304 rotors or

993 aluminum wheel carrier, advantage no caliper adapter, lighter and uses 993 32x304 drilled rotors or

993RS alumium wheel carrier, advantage no caliper adapter, lighter, uses 993 drilled 32x304 rotors and has bump steer compensation for very low cars




+you will want to change the m/c and booster assembly to 993
964 to 993
ypu will need
m/c 993.355.910.00
vac can 993.355.023.10
gasket 993.355.301.00
support 993.355.163.03
+ 2x 10mm to 12mm brake line adapters, or have some custom lines made up
