964 / 993 Dash LED Intrument Gauge lights
I like to check if there is any interest to convert to LED lights for the 964 and 993 instrument gauges.
I got the LED's they work for the 911 up to 88, however, since the 964 and 993 have different lights these will not work. See my post Testing some Instrument LED The LED's would be about the same as in the picture below, but with the correct base, so it would be a straight replacement. ![]() Thanks for any feedback. Engelbert

I have a 993. I just ordered led bulbs yesterday.
Here are two links. First is where I bought the B8.4D-WHP and the second is an example of installation. If you do it for a 993, keep in mind some few things: 1- There are 10 led bulbs (and 27 warning lights). You will need one extra bulb for cars with OBD (On Board Computer) 2- There are 2 bulbs per instrument. They are 0.9w and the warning light are 1.5w I think changing only the 11 0.9w bulbs is suffisent. I can keep you updated when I will install them. But for me it will be difficult to compare since I am also replacing the faceplates with aftermarket white ones. Theses faceplates are known to be more hard to read at night... Hoping the led will help... Good luck, great project! https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/instrument-cluster-gauge/b8-led-bulb-high-power-instrument-panel-led/223/ Gauge bulbs - Page 2 - Rennlist Discussion Forums |

Now I have to admit I have some doubts
What I ordered is equal to 6 lumen and the link from tmc993 is equal to 25 lumen per bulb. Is 6 lumen too low with my white faceplates? |

Maybe there is a comparison chart available online that would give you an idea. I will say that I haven't gone to LEDs because I feel that if the gauge lighting it too bright, it will reduce my ability to see the road at night. With all these people adding "flamethrower" headlamps and not bothering to aim them properly, additional glare from the gauges is the last thing I need. At the same time, bright warning lights are not an issue when driving because they only come on when there's a problem and you do want to be able to see them quickly when they illuminate.

Maybe the 964/993 gauges are easier to illuminate than the gauges of the previous cars. I have a prototype in blue (which was not the plan), and tested 2 of them in a 964 Tach I have. Here is a picture next to the original bulb. ![]() Here the tach with the 2 blue LED installed. ![]() This is straight of Battery power, not dimmed. Cheers Engelbert

It has been a while, and I made some progress on the LED's for the 964. Here is a picture of the LED's in Bright white and the correct base, like the original. These are plug and play, direct replacement.
![]() Here installed and powered on 12V undimmed. ![]() I'm looking for somebody to test them in a 964 or 993. Let me know and I send you a set for free, I just need some feedback and some pictures installed. Cheers Engelbert

Thanks for the interest, I will send out 2 sets for testing as soon I have the mailing address.
Responded to the 2 PM's. I'm interested how the dimming works on the newer car. The range on the PRE 964 cars were limited, and I did some testing with an additional dimmer. See this post Testing some Instrument LED Thanks Engelbert

We had some fitment issues with the LED's. I need to make some changes. It will be while. I will post again once it's fixed.
Cheers Engelbert

Any update to the bulb fitment issue? My OBC bulbs are both out, need to replace them soon.

Sorry, I decided not to go any further with them. They would become too expensive. I also noticed that there is some one who sells sets for 964, not sure how good they are.
Thanks Engelbert

I decided to pick this up again, and finally I completed a new design of the LED's for the 964 and 993.
Here is a picture with the 964 gauges installed in my display. These are the Vintage White. ![]() Here with the Bright White LED's ![]() Here is a view with the 914 setup at the bottom also in Bright white. ![]() And here is the 964 Tach installed next to the 914 Tank gauge the speedo. All in Bright white. ![]() I will have them on my website by end of next week, and they are available in Bright, or Vintage white. These LED's are plug and play. Thanks Engelbert

Check out this video, it shows how the LED Instrument lights for Porsche 964 and 993 dim.
Cheers Engelbert
