Porsche Crest Manual locking?

I removed and then installed the door handle, and while I'm currently missing the electric switch that activates the central locking, I think the doors should still be able to lock and unlock mechanically, correct? They don't, so I guess I've not put the door locks together correctly? (1990 911 C2 targa).

Yes on my 1993.

When I disconnect the battery, I can still lock the doors mechanically with the key.

I think you can only unlock the door manually on a 1990, you'll need the micro-switch to lock them

My mistake.
I cannot lock and unlock mechanically with the battery disconnected.

It must have been possible on my 1996 BMW.

I don't recall the exact year but the early 964's can only be unlocked with a key. They made a change to the locking mechanism I believe in 1991 when they changed the rear lid latch as well. They added an extra tang or extension to the locking mechanism so that it can be both locked and unlocked with the key. They also at this time added pull cables to the front and rear latches to release them in case the main release cables break.
