Reverting a back seat delete on 964 cabriolet
 

Hi!

Is it possible to install rear seats on a 964 cabriolet that came with a back seat delete? I have young kids that would enjoy riding with me if I get a 964 and would like to know if I need to focus my search on non delete rear seats.

I would be more worried about how to add seat belts.

You believe that they do not come with the right seat belt anchors? I am completely fine with a lap belt for occasional use but I would not want this to turn into a super expensive project...

I did this to mine. Requires the pivot from a cab (donor car) and the outer pivot holes (threaded) that are cut from a donor also. Welded it all in and installed lap belts. Thought I posted a thread on it here awhile ago. Would be 2012 or 2013.

Let me know if you get things sorted out with trading out storage boxes for seats on your 964 Cab.
I would be happy to swap my seats for your storage boxes. I have a 1991 Cab with tan seats (champaign). I always wanted that extra storage that was on the RS. Let me know. If interested send pics and I'll do the same

Your rear seat delete box is worth real money, and a straight swap with anyone for plain old rear seats would not be in your best interest.

If it is in good, unmolested condition, your rear seat delete box is worth at least $1000 on the open market. Regular back seats are common and sell for much much less.

If it's in black in color and in good condition with no modifications, PM me and I might be interested in buying it.

Cab seat back are different to coupe , and earlier 964 cabs had a different hinge release .

Some cars had the box fitted once the “delete” build order was underway , and some had them done at the dealers to suit an order .
So you can find cars with provisions for retrofitting seats .
Iirc , around 92-93 a lot were built to cover both eventualities .

My 93 has a delete box and I believe seat mounts , but I’ve not looked inside it for a while ...

If the mounts are there (and I’m 99% they are ) , I’m also going to fit rear seats .

I am slowly making progress! It turns out that it is not easy to find cabriolet seats (which are definitely different, notice the four bolsters vs five for coupes and targa) but I just scored a set and I have sold the delete box. I also have seat belts, hopefully everything will fit nicely.
