Recommended Mods and Best Chip for 993?

Hey all-- I'm a 3.2 guy, but my brother just bought a nice 993. He recently purchased Fabspeed's X Pipe and Maxflo Exhaust, along with a strut bar (not sure of the details).

Any advice for common, most bang-for-your-buck mods for a 993?

Is there a got-to-have ECU chip? (Steve Wong is the way to go for 3.2 motors, not sure what the situation is for 993s).

Any advice is appreciated. thanks.

MGAR88, congrats to you and your brother on the P-Cars. You may already be on Rennlist too but their 993 forum is really active and can likely get you some sound advice on mods and other intel for his car.

I split time between both but Rennlist for my 993 and Pelican for my 67. Good luck on the transformation.

I've got all the parts for the light weight flywheel conversion in my '95. The '95s (non-Varioram) are known for stalling with LWFW, so I'll be running the Steve Wong chip, which will dial this out. Many 993 owners have had excellent experiences with his products.

Iíve run a S.W. Chip in my 95 for a few years and itís a good mod. Fabspeed crossover and maxflow on exhaust. If you donít have a short shift kit Iíd recommend FDmotorsports ssk and goldenrod. IEasy install. I bought my clutch from them also. Daren will direct you through any brain fart you may encounter... donít ask how I know. I chose against the LWF because it was my everyday driver at the time and had read about stalling headaches in traffic. If you keep your ICV clean and watch for vacuum leaks it supposedly helps out on stalling on a 95.

Yeah, mine is a daily driver. Just didn't see any point in keeping the heavy dual-mass FW when doing the clutch job...especially when you can spec the SW chip to handle the stalling. At the time I sourced the LW clutch parts, the mythical "mid-weight" flywheel wasn't yet available...not sure if it ever happened.

I started off with Fister 3s paired with the OEM cat and that was a glorious sound. Then went to Fabspeed X-pipe with sport cats and it was too much of a good thing with the Fister 3s. So I traded them for Fabspeed Maxflos and while it is a tad too quiet for me, it is a very refined sound. Currently, I'm running the cat bypass pipes and it has made the sound a little more aggressive, but the smell....

Agreed on the FD "golden rod"! Excellent mod! I love mine. Also running Bilstein PSS10s, Walrod suspension bushings, Wevo engine mounts, and got rid of that chitty SAI system!

T-lights are great ! Heís got a new remote door lock system thatís pretty neat too. I just opted for bilstein HDís. Oklahoma roads donít deserve pss10 Ďs. Iíve installed CW bushings on both of my 993ís and couldnít believe what a difference it made... guess we all head down that slippery slope of mods 😊

No truer words have been spoken! And I would also add, the Rennlist 993 community seems to be more active! LOL!

Steve Wong chip for sure

I'd spend the time and money on suspension
front replace the A-arm bushes w/ Elephant Sport
rear replace the A-Arm and Kinetic toe link w/ RS parts

check the other links to be sure that they are nominal

Bilstein or better shocks and springs

I think the purchase made is excellent, but you could be sure enough when you compare the specifications with the ones mentioned in the user manual of your car. And if you do not possess the user manual, you can get an exact copy of it online on manuals-co, the online website to get all kinds of user manuals absolutely free of costs.
