2004 C4S, convertible top latch

2004 C4S, Cabriolet, convertible top opens and closes just fine but the latch does not latch, when the top is opening, the latch will close right before it folds up, so I know the latch motor is working, I have checked the micro switches for the latch and for the lid cover, all the flaps and the clam all open and close just fine, I am tempted to just manually latch it but I am afraid of getting it all out of sync if I do this, the closet Porsche Dealer is 4 hours away, any suggestions? I now have tried the manually close option, using a screwdriver it closes just fine, the light is still on the dash that the top has not completed, so then I hit the close switch and it opens the latch back up, something has to be out of sync but I cannot figure it out, would anyone know if there is a potentiometer and if there is, where is it located, I have torn the thing apart 4 times and I am at a loss. Thanks Jay

Thanks for the articles, I have gone through them and I did post on there but have not heard anything yet. I now have tried to manually close the top and that worked to close it, but after I had it latched, the light was still on the dash showing that it wasn't complete, I then hit the close button but the latch actually unlatched instead, I did this twice just to make sure, I then removed the battery over night and tested and it is still not latching, I see some talk about a potentiometer, can you send me a picture of where this is located, I cannot find it on my car. Thank you

potentiometer found

I was able to locate the potentiometer it is on the left side of the car, you have to remove the internal panel to get to it, it was broken, I moved it to the position that it should have been and my top latched, going to order a new part and should be good

Hi there. My 997 won't finish cycle just latches and unlatches ... Did your position sensor cure your issue? I have had mine calibrated and the indy reckons it won't be the sensor. I am thinking to just try one. Are they expensive?
