Oh, we are reading this, but have no good ideas, really. Since you had to take the cover off the fuse
box, I would check to make sure everything is in the right place. Can you verify it is the brake light that is on and not the driving light? Until you get an answer, your friend should pull the fuse for each of those things so that they don't drain the battery.

The has arrived Florida.from CA..,if you would shutoff the car and lock the car, back up and brake lights stay on.
So I disconnect the fuse 6and 7 drove it a little but now even if I put the fuses back no brake lights.Got an appointment on Monday for diagnostics....will know. Later

Looks like my theory worked.I left all 3fuses out over night and today I have at least the 3rd light working.Could be that the complicated el. System is reset by itself?

Update..went to a dealer today, problem was the big rains in LA recently. The floor was full of water, drains were plugged up.The module under the driver's seat was kaput with that water there and the car sitting like that for 2month..all works now..

Oh, that makes total sense. Thanks for sharing. I'm beginning to think anything that seems illogical is the module under the seat.
