Repair or Replace Veriocam Solenoid
Veriocam solenoid seems to be bad on bank 1 haven’t opened bank 2 yet. I have watched videos of using break cleaner to try and get them working again just not sure how long it will last. I have already put about three grand into the current repairs with the IMS replacement just not sure if I should bite the bullet and replace them at another $1400 or try and clean them out to see if I can get them working again.
One other thing. So, I have shards of plastic in my oil I expect from bank 2 cam pads. My plan was to put a cheaper oil in the car run it for a few miles then do another oil change to see if I can clean it out. Thoughts?

If you want your engine to operate correctly, then you have to maintain it. Cheap oil won’t fix the chain guide deterioration. You have to fix it or park it until you can fix it. If you plan to do this yourself, you will need the cam hold down tool before you remove the valve cover.
These cars are more expensive if left un-repaired than maintained. It’s a 25 year old car!

Thanks Tony, I am replacing the chain guilds. The cheap oil is just to try and flush some of the pieces of plastic I cant see before adding in a better oil. As for tools, i have all of the tools needed to properly do the job its was more about repairing the soleniod or spending the money to replace them. So far while having the motor out i have done the following
1) IMS 2) AOS 3)Clutch 4)Rearmain seal 5)Cam pads 6)Crank sensor 7)Cam sensors 8)Oil level sensor 9)Oil pressure 10)Clutch slave cylinder 11)as many hoses i can find to replace and a few other items...

Ah! Good work. If your engine is out, may as well do it all and know when you put it back you have confidence everything is done right.
As far as the engine flush goes, the cheaper oil is a good idea. Probably only a couple hundred miles or less should do it.
