Pulled the owners manual, at 30,000 miles you should:
1. Change the air filter 2. Change the oil 3. ...and the dealer will tell you to change the pollen filter Cost: 1. Air filter, $42. If you diy it takes about 30 mins 2. Oil change $200 3. Pollen filter, $80 Based on your previous post it appears you recently acquired your 2001 recently, if this is not the case I apologize in advance. Not knowing what has been done to the vehicle by the prior owner I would suggest you have these items done to base-line the maintenance on your vehicle: 1. Replace the brake fluid. 1 hour labor, $30 for the fluid. 2. Change the transmission oil. Fluids $50, labor 45mins to 1 hour. 3. Change the radiator fluid. Fluid $30, labor 45min-1 hour. * These items should be done every 2 years. My opinion. EPA charges applicable to the costs I cannot recommend a shop. I am sure others will chime in on this issue

Plenty.
What is the service history. That car needs nothing but an oil change and a couple of gallons of VW pink coolant. Go to Porsche get a filter, and to VW for the coolant. Take it to your mechanic and if he doesn't know how to do it, put on your nitril gloves and show him. Nah don't bother going back. Practice your own oil/coolant change. Drive it to Rolex 24 in FLorida then we'll talk about another, and maybe the brake fluid. Then when you get back home drive it for a while and then can take it to wrench to do the tranny fluid. This way the car will be happy too. Regards,

Here's a ton of information regarding the 30k service 996 30k service. Expect to pay a small premium based on your location. I've seen costs anywhere between 600-1200+$ depending on what you want/need done and what dealer you choose. When you add it up, it always seems to fall between 600-800, but the dealer's manage to nearly double that it seems. I've noticed varying labor rates on brake jobs i.e.

I almost paid $1500. If your car is out of warranty, I'd have an independant do it fo ra few hundred bucks, labor rate at dealerships is murder. But they got me by the nuts since I have an extended warranty with them !
