2004 4s
I am looking at a used 2004 4s 911 Cab. It has over 120K on it. Original IMS, new clutch and tires. Any thoughts? I'm a bit hesitant because of the mileage.

depends on price. Figure an ims replacement as part of the deal and knock off 2k from price.

I'm with you on the IMS replacement. Dealer is asking just under $28K. Seems a bit high to me.

I agree it is high unless it comes with a warranty on the engine as part of the price.

No warranty included. If you consider $2K for the IMS, what would be a fair price to offer the dealer?

Revising earlier opinion...
Just did a quick check of KBB and they say 35k for a 120,000 mile car in excellent condition. If condition changes then drop price accordingly. Are there service records with the car? How many owners? If it is a 1 owner car with records, it may be reasonable. If there are no records and it has had multiple owners, I might be less enthusiastic to buy. Before you part with your money make sure you'll be happy with the car. Don't forget to get a PPI done at an independent shop. It will be the best 250 bucks you will spend.

Multiple owners and no service records. Have to rely on PPI and pictures as I am not located near the dealer.

On the positive side, the 04's had engineered out many of the problems of the 3.4 cars of 99-01. The issues with the cracking cylinder heads were remedied with thicker cylinder walls and the oil pump, I believe, has a better output than the earlier cars. It is still an 96 engine and the IMS can be a problem. If you buy it, don't wait to have that done. You may ask on the board here, for a good shop in your area. BTW it helps to post your location if you want the name of a good shop close by, or for that matter, a shop for a ppi wherever the car is located.
The engines will last with frequent oil changes and the ims upgrade. I wouldn't be worried with the 120k if the ppi checks out.

Price is high (of course, it is a dealer).......120K miles, no records and no warranty.....stay away...
I would look in the for sale here and rennlist.com......probably less miles, similar price and all service records..... My .02 cents....
