Cluster problems - 996 EV conversion
Hi, I am am almost finished with a EV conversion of a 996 but I have one last problem to resolve to pass inspection. The Cluster needs to show the odomoter and speed and for now nothing works. couple lights on the cluster light up but not the lcd screens.
(See screenshot below) We checked Term30 and 15 and we have 12v, Term31 is grounded. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is my cluster just busted? Thanks in advance, Jonathan ![]() |

Yes the DME is in the car and is still connected! Not 100% sure if it is on, but everything else seems to be working.
If I buy a new Cluster, do I have to program it for it to turn ON? Shouldn't the LCD still go On even if not reprogrammed? |

I would connect the car up to a Porsche specific scan tool (Durametric, PIWIS, PST II) and check the cluster. The cluster gets most of its data via the CAN bus from the DME.

Thanks for the answers, i'll probably buy the durametric to check.
I am thinking also to buy a cluster. Would a cluster from an automatic work in my car (Manual)? not many manual from 99-2001 clusters for sale. |

You need to get one that matches the car, if you look in Porsche's parts catalog, there are a myriad of clusters available, each slightly different than the other depending upon the end use application. Porsche would not make that many part numbers if they could just be swapped.
