2001 996C4 here.

The top failed last autumn with a cracked plastic gear in the flap mechanism. It skipped a few teeth and the top froze.

This spring we replaced the mechanism and calibrated the top with the scanner, and everything works, top goes up and down again.

However, when the top goes down, everything looks correct and snug, but the dash light still shows the top "opening".

Is there a final microswitch that tells the car when the top is fully down? Or am I back to calibration hell again?

Thanks.

Thank you for your reply.

I went to the car to answer your question, but then it worked for me.

I used the car a few days and is now intermittent. It would reliably go up and down eventually, but sometimes it would stop and I would have to either wait and try again, or help it and try again. It's usually sticking about 8 inches behind the windshield when opening and above the back seat when closing.

I was able to use the scan tool again and it's saying "Timeout". So I guess the car is saying "while everything seems ok, it's taking too long, so I'm stopping"?

The fluid level is above MIN but only slightly so I purchased some fluid and will top up and maybe just use the top for a few weeks now that it's warm again and see if it improves with use and lubrication.

If not, I'll come back here.

Thank you.
