Is on a 2001 C2 Cab. Seems like the thermostat housing needs to come out to give enough clearance. Ordered a new low temp one anyway. Going to remove the exhaust header to get to the top bolt of the housing. Hoping that nothing else will need to be taken off.

Yes if your car is a Tiptronic car I have found on a few cars that the thermostat had to be removed. If you can use a wrench instead of a ratchet for the removal of the tightly squeezed in bolt on the thermostat housing you won't have to remove the exhaust manifold.

I followed this and it went really well for me.

I have a manual transmission 99 coupe.
The water pump drops down and out. You have to back some bolts off but not all the way out to get clearance. A great video(s) can be found on Renntech's site for both the thermostat and water pump removal and replacement. If I remember correctly, the bottom hose removal is not easy to slide off and you have to really pull on it. One of the bolts holding the pump is difficult to get to without a 3/8 swivel and socket. The gasket is razor thin and covers both stat and pump. I know I am going to get some static for this but I put in a Napa re-built ($130.00) and now have 17K miles on the pump with no trouble. |
