rear windows won't close

Completed my 1st road trip in my newly purchased 2000 911C w/ the top down, however when put back in garage the rear windows would not go back up. Looked online in owners manual but no info. The front windows go up/down w/ no problem and the top functions correctly. Also a little black plastic piece in the lock mech. is broken, is this functional or cosmetic? Need help as the car has bugs and dirt and am ashamed to take out now.

fuse?

Check the driver's kick plate fuse box. There should be a booklet in there identifying the right fuse for you to check.

It's functional.
If you look in the socket in the middle of the windshield header where the "hook" latches. There is a micro switch that senses when the top is latched. If the piece is missing on the hook it won't activate the window safety switch. If the little piece in the socket is missing same thing.

The rear windows will not go up until that switch is pressed by the plastic piece that covers the hook in the top. Often the hook will keep cycling if the piece is broken.
You can reach in (popsicle stick?) press and hold it to enable the rear window switches to work.

When we are out with the top down on a chill morning my wife will ask me to close the "little" window(s) to help cut down on the cool air on her neck, yes we have the wind block up also.
I just push my finger into the top latch socket to activate the switch and then she can close the window(s).
I think Porsche didn't allow the windows to close with the top down due to product liability issues. The back windows have a sharp point that is easy to smack into if you have a door open when they are up with the top down.
So be aware of that if you put them up when the top is down.

There is alot going on to complete the top closing sequence. The last step is the rear windows closing. If you release the button too soon they will not close. The top latches & then the windows close if you have not released the button.
