Cigarette lighter doesn't power anything except lighter ?

Was traveling in my 997.2 the other day and I tried to use the compressor to fill a bike tire. Plugged in the air compressor to the lighter socket and it would not power on. I thought maybe I blew a fuse but I tried the lighter and it heats up red hot. Then I tried the compressor in the AUX power port in the passenger and that didn't work either ??? Swapped in a new fuse in the F8 position and still the compressor didn't work. I know the compressor works just fine in my Subaru.
Any suggestions ??

check the fuse in the tip of the compressor power plug?
i see it works in your subi, maybe the end is not long enough to reach the center contact in the lighter port
