Does this Porsche officially exist?

I own a fantastic 2001 996 C2, that runs like a swiss watch. When I asked the editor of Total911 magazine about the absence of the 996 Carrera S from their listing of all Porsches ever made, he said no S model was made. Is that true?

The Red book does not list a C2 S. What is the VIN #?

I'd prefer not to put VIN out there..
I've seen similar 996 Carrera S models on eBay from time to time FWIW

In 2002, Porsche introduced an "S" variant, but only in the C4, not the C2. In response to criticism that the Carrera had become too refined, in 2002 the C4S came with many options including lowered suspension and sports exhaust. It proved popular and set the pattern for the 997 Carrera S versions.

By coincidence - another 1999 S on eBay today. I've seen a few more. Weird.

IS the 2001 c2 a mk1 or a mk2 maybe they introduced them on mk2 and beyond?
I have a 1998 mk1 which i guess is base model but what i like about them is that their power to weight is higher than all prev s models and also some later models. Prob due to their light weight.
