crap gas - low octane
After a drive Sunday in my 02 C4S tank was very empty, gassed up with 92 octane. After about a mile in slow congestion it started pinging. I want to boost the octane of this tank. Any known product that works? I always have Toluene used as a thinner for a glue in my work. Many discussions online, good and bad about using it.

Look around your area for a 100 octane pump. There is one near me, it is still 10% ethanol but who cares. Or find a Sunoco rep and buy 5 gallon (or larger) pails of 100 octane race gas. Then add 2 gallons to every tank. That's what I do (on previous sports cars and on my new to me 996 so far), I figure 2 gallons brings me from 91 to about 94 or 95 octane on each tank.
I have looked at the various additives and when you research you will find most really don't work as advertised. Real high octane fuel is the solution.

I asked 2 Porsche mechanics I know, trust and have used and a machine shop that builds race motors. All 3 said drain it and stick that fuel in the daily drivers. I have a gravity fuel pump, I'll put the car on the lift and raise it maybe 18" for good flow. Then replace the fuel filter just in case, put a few gallons known good 92, should be good to go - to the gas station for a fill up. Pisses me off that station had 87 in the 92 tank.
