Oxygen Sensor Extensions
I recently installed a complete exhaust this weekend on my 996 C2 Manual. Headers, Cats, Mufflers, 02 Sensors. After installing the exhaust I noticed that the new post catalytic O2 sensors were located on the opposite sides of the stock headers. The leads were not long enough to go to the opposite side connectors. What is the best way to extend the o2 wires? Splice in matching gauge wire from the wiring harness? I've read that it's not a good idea to splice into the o2 sensor wires.
Thanks. |
Like most modern sensors, the O2 sensors are very sensitive to changes in wire resistance and voltage drops when altering the harness. Crimp type wire connectors are out, you need to match the wire gauge exactly and solder in the extensions or you will have continuous problems.

I googled Porsche 02 sensor wire extension, there were numerous listed. I think the issue is getting the correct connectors. I found when replacing the 02 sensors in the Ford V8 in my Cobra that they were aviable with short or long wires. The sensor aviable at Rock Auto have a 23 inch wire. HTH
