Engine Swap-Boxster 3.2 into 3.4 1999 996

What does it take to drop a 3.2 Boxster engine, into a 1999 996 that had a 3.4 in it?

1. Do I need to swap wiring harnesses?
2. Will the 1999 ECU recognize the 3.2 without any CEL?
3. Any parts need to be swapped from the 3.4 to 3.2?
4. The 99 is a Tipronic. Does the 3.2 HAVE to be a TIP also, or can it be a manual?

Here is the reason. The 99 just had massive engine failure at 145K on the car. Otherwise, the car is in great shape, Tipronic and all. 3.2 engines are a lot cheaper than 3.4 engines on EBay. I know I will be giving up some HP. That is ok...This is simply a DD car, to and from to work and running around town. I use it to keep from running up the miles up on my 2002 996 Convertible Six speed.

Have you taken a look at our Boxster Engine Swap / Carrera Engine Conversion DIY tech article? Should be somewhat similar... Either way it has a lot of great info so be sure to take a look at it here: Porsche Boxster Engine Conversion Project - 986 / 987 (1997-08) - Pelican Parts Technical Article. We did this to our in-house 986.
