Stripped engine ground bolt

Hi Guys ,

Last weekend wanted to clean rusted bolt which holds ground stripe to the body on my
996 Carrera 2003.
Previous owner drove the car during winter so rust hitter this bolt.

Issue was that my voltage is dropping during drive, bought new voltage regulator and wanted to include cleaning of ground stripe, engine to the body in whole approach of improving whole E circle flow ..

Even if i have sprayed the bolt few weeks ago , few times with WD40 and rust remover , nut didn`t wanted to move ..

So few pushes and nut was stripped , unfortunately ..
Ground stripe is still in place , most likely keep in place by surrounding rust ..

Have removed battery from the car , just in case ..

So , what now , for sure battery does not come back till i dont repair damaged bolt , but how to approach repair ..
Of course , will clean whole place from rust , but now should i weld new bolt , is this a right approach , or should i avoid welding and just pin new bolt wit e circle ( don`t know whats right word for this process when you don`t weld but just use E circle to attach metal to metal)

Which material is part of the body where bolt is located , steel or Aluminium ?

Well lets start with those few questions , hope we will end up with right advices.

Thank you guys for help and support ..

Agaton

Hi yelcab1

No , its not in front of the car , its a bolt on the right back side of the car, right behind
right back wheel.
Where ground stripe is bolted to the frame ..

Will make a picture tomorrow .. But had look again Yesterday, it seams there is a nut welded to the frame ..
Will clean bit better to have better view and make pic ..

I think its a stud welded to the frame. Its a pretty thick box section right there. Perhaps cut off the old stud, clean to bare metal and weld on a new one.

It is not a stud, it is strap with a hole and is bolted into the frame. If you strip the hole, feel free to use a helicoil of some kind

You can always clean up a stud with a die.
