997 Check Engine Light code P0442

Hello,

First check engine light ever on my 07 997. just got the P0442, Fuel Tank Ventilation System (Micro-leak) - Below Lower Limit.

I tightened the fuel cap (never know), disconnected battery and plugged back in to reset the code and was good for a couple hundred miles. filled up on gas, then boom. came right back and hasn't gone away since. the car runs very well, no sputtering or stalling, easy start every time.

I've done searches both here and on Rennlist but have yet to find anything 997 specific, a lot of 996 stuff but I am not sure if its the same. My mech sent me this part number back: 997-110-128-01 but its ~$400 and i'd rather not drop that kind of cash on what sounds like a vacuum hose.... was hoping this might be something a little more simple. can anyone help? Thanks!

pic for viewing pleasure.

Don't buy any part until the system has been properly diagnosed. It can be as simple as a worn seal on your gas cap.. The system should get smoke tested to reveal the leak.

Cheers
