2002-911/996 Auto Trans - Ignition key will not turn..

After inserting my ignition key I cannot turn it to start the car. (this problem has occurred "intermittently" before and I was able to clear it by jerking the steering wheel one way, and then the other allowing the ignition key to then turn) The steering wheel is now locked up, and jerking the wheel to the left and right does not work. Please advise what my next steps should be in correcting/isolating this problem. (I have two ignition keys and they both behave in the same manner)

Just want to check to see if I was missing anything that might be obvious before I start ripping and tearing to replace anything.

Please advise.....

Need to replace the switch. may just be the electrical portion which is cheap and easy.

Cheers

Yes pull the electrical part off of the back and then see if the key turns.
