low temperature thermostat

Hi
2005 996 c4s
just changed water pump coolant and a few pipes and put in a low temperature thermostat.when finished got car up to running temperature but it wasn't that much low than before with the low temperature thermostat and when left running after run down bypass the fans don't seem to kick but temperature don't go any high than the 0 on the 80, does it have to go higher than that for fans to come on

Your dash temp display is both notoriously inaccurate as well as non linear, so consider it at best an approximation of the actual temp. The fans are controlled by the DME using the actual water temperature; as long as you did not entrap air in the system (e.g.: used a vacuum system refilling tool), there should be no issues.
