Noise Levels!

Recently purchased a 73 that was used as a track car. Its currently running headers and straight pipes/megaphones. Very LOUD! At some point i would like to get involved in track events. My question is..What type of noise restrictions are required ?

Any input would be appreciated !
Cheers, Mark.

Talk to the sanctioning bodies you want to run with and the tracks you want to run at. Noise level restrictions vary from site to site and sometimes from event to event.

Congrats on the acquisition! You're in for some fun.

Some tracks do have noise limits. Most club events go by the track limits, but some clubs have their own limits. Both should be published, so should be easy to find.

Tracks usually measure from trackside as you drive by. Open exhaust will be ~105db, stock exhausts are usually in the 80s or lower 90s. Unfortunately it's hard to measure sound reliably at home, but with a 911 it's usually easy to ask around here and find setups from other 911s that pass sound at particular tracks.

This setup is pointing right which is the direction of the sound station going up the hill between T5 and T6. Should be pointing to the left.

Just a FYI - - the direction pipe can be either right or left - - we have a track here in AZ that we use CW and CCW with the sound level meter on the outside of the track for compliance - - can be a $500 fine so there is a Pre sound location to test cars before passing the compliance meter . . . and there is a 200 person daily track limit on this privately owned facility next to an USAF base F35/F16 runway . . . ha ha what a Cluster F#$%& !!

We were fortunate that the muffler system was built by the PO in CA and passed it along to my son when he bought the car . . .

Regards,
Roy T

Just don't show up @ an AX event.
They tend to get annoyed by race cars

Depends on the site and sanctioning body.

Kind of like the big tracks, actually.
