Aftermarket Sway bars
I have an 89 S2. It is strictly a track car. I am looking to upgrade my sway bars. Currently I am looking at the Porsche 968 M30 package bars and the Weltmeister bars. Does any one have any info on either of these or can you recaomend others?
thanks |

I'm not too familiar with the 944/968 cars, but I believe that Kokeln would be a good place to look. http://kokeln.com/products/951_8689/index.shtml
If Smart-Racing Products makes or will make a bar for your car, I'd go that route without hesitation. http://www.smart-racing.com

Chris, do you see a big difference between Tenet and Smart. Smart seems rather expensive.

Zeke, I agree that Smart Racing bars are expensive ($675!!!), but Brad Roberts brought one to JP's party, and the quality of the components is simply amazing. I am thinking about going for the 23mm bar they offer, but I might also try Taret(sp?) because they are about $200 less.

I have the 22mm Welt bar on my current car, and also had their stuff on my last two p-cars. They certainly seem to work fine for what most of us do (driving wise) and are priced relatively well. But I have heard numerous stories (largely on this board) about hardware failures and whatnot -- enough to freak me out more than a little bit. Coupled with the small (2) choice in sizes and the alleged superior geometry of the other vendors' bars, I'm ready to jump ship. I have never heard a single bad thing thus far about the Smart-Racing bars, other than their price, and they clearly are gorgeous pieces. The design seems to "make sense" to my non-engineer brain.

I Just sold my Welts and am waiting for my Smart-Racing Bars to arrive. The only negative thing I've heard is that the rear bar ends tend to hang alittle low to the ground. I'll let you guys nknow when I get them on.

I have over 30 track days on my Smart Racing bars and they are fantastic. The rear is really nice and the adjustment points are spaced very well. The only thing I would say is that you MUST have your rear sway bar mouts updated to the new style or heavily reinforced, or both. The instructions are very good and I was able to install them in approx. 5hrs. This included drilling the mounting holes in the front to backdate to the trough the body style.
Cheers, James

I just got my Tarett bar mounted the other day, and it is a beauty. I took it out for a spirited drive around some turns, and it makes a huge difference. Installation required reaming out the existing through-body holes, but that is all. Ill be able to truly test it this Sat at the PCA AX

Can anyone tell me where we can look for info on the Tarett bar? I've done a Google Search and the only return was this thread. I would like to compare to others on the market. TIA

If our site was up, you could check us out at www.tarett.com , but you can check our bars out at one of our distributors www.elephantracing.com . Unfortunately our server appears to have been down since last night. Basically, our bars have the same quality and functionality (better in some cases) as our competitors, but at a much more reasonable price. Please check out the Elephant Racing site form more info, and feel free to contact us or them with any questions.

Hey guys! The original question was for a 968 sway bar recommendation
Smart does not make bars for a 944/ 968 Weltmeister and Tarett do The m 030 968 bars are very good. We use them on our clients' 944 turbos . But you have no adjustability- the others do Last edited by TRE Cup; 05-03-2003 at 01:56 PM.. |
