The all new WheelCAM tm

Now I know that this isn't an original idea, but I worked out a way to convert my in-car camera system to work as a WheelCam.

I have one of those CCD spy-type cameras attached to a digital video recorder.

I took the camera and mounted it in a right angle conduit fitting made of PVC and attached it to the passenger side jack hole in my 1978 911SC.

Here is a link to a 30 second clip when I was at VIR last weekend with NASA. A guy around here who does custom helmet paint work let me use his site (a quick shameless plug):

http://www.competitioncustompaint.com/videos.html

It is the WheelCam video under the VIR section. I was very surprised at how stable the camera turned out. It is imbedded in gasket sealer within the conduit fitting to reduce vibration.

ahem, of course my smooth driving also helped. haha, yeah right.

The camera was $85 and the fitting/hardware was $5.

So has anyone else out there come up with a cool spot to get a video feed? Let me know what you think.

Well, I have had alot of problems with that and will be racing at the track where it happens the most (CMP). I hope to be able to run both an in-car camera as well as the wheel cam during the race.

Not sure if the scruties will allow it...but heck it sticks out less than my flag mirror. If I get anything good I'll post a link.

With some changes I really hope to have reduced wheel lift...I guess I'll know for sure.
