Bad Inside Rub

After my last track event at IRP I noticed a bad abrasive area on the inside of my left front tire. The tires are new. The track has a lot of highspeed right hand turns so the outside of the left tire gets alot of abuse but, this is on the iside and looks like an obvious abraded area. Question is on what? I did not see any shiney areas of metal and when turning from lock to lock, I did not see any contact points. I haven't had it on the lift yet but was hoping somone could help with an idea. I did not notice any handeling problems.
Thanks
Mike

That rub does look bad but I'm no expert at all. If that's on the inside of the tire then are there any shiney and/or rubbed areas anywhere in the fenderwell (strut, brake line, anything)?

I'm thinking it's the opposite of what you think it is. I say it's rubber build up from rubber that has migrated over to the edge from the rest of the tire contact area.

Milt may be on to something. Tire rub on a tire usually looks shiny on the tire as well. If you can't find anything, just watch your "tread" depth and keep going....

Chris, Milt;
Interesting thought. It looks gouged but I'll give it another examination tonight.
Thanks
Mike

Chris, Milt, Tim;
The area is definately abraded not pushed over so I need to closely re-examine any rubbing areas. Have you heard of anyone rubbing on the brake cooling air scoop that mounts below the A-arm? Also, it is interesting that the rub is not on the sidewall but at the lineangle between the road surface and the sidewall. I'm not sure what this means.
