Need race wheel backspacing/offset info please

Hi,

for my SCCA Street Prepared ASP 72 911 (With SC Flares), I'm looking to get a set of race wheels. Since I'm 20% down in power at altitude, and I can't find anyone to make me cheaper 17 X 8.5/17 X 10 wheels than Fikse, I've decided to drop an inch and gain some Torque. So, I'm having some 16 X 8.5 / 16 X 10 wheels made. (Somewhere...)

I need backspacing and offset info, if anyone can provide it for me. I dont really know how to measure it myself, so it would be great if someone had the info. Right now I'm looking at CCW, Diamond Racing, and a few other custom wheel manufacturers.

Thanks!

mike

If I were you I would thouroughly investigate the tire sizes available in 16, 17 and 18 before making a decision.;)

Was just doing that today, actually. Thanks Bill.

I believe that most of the competitive ASPs run maxed out widths 245 & 275 on 17s. There isn't much of a comparable selection in 16.

Randy Wells would be the one to check w/

Hmmm...I was afraid of that! It looks like 17's might be my only choice! I haven't seen Randy on here in a while, otherwise I would have asked him. I'm also trying to get ahold of Curt Ormiston, but he's been unavailable too.

Thanks,

mto

I have a set of 18" ccw I use for racing and really like them. Very affordable as well compared to fiske. Here is how John at ccw told me to measure my backspacing.

Yes...I've been checking out CCW. For 2k I might be able to get what I need.

Thanks,

Just another option. My wheels were just a little over 2k.
Mirage International, Fuch centers with the correct spacing for the my RS bodied 911. 17x8s and 10s.
Give Jae Lee the owner a call, tell him tall Mike sent you.
Here's a link to their site.

ooooooooooo....those are perfect ted. Slightly smaller in the front than I wanted, but the size is right on the money. Thanks for the link. Would you mind posting the rest of your suspension set up (Torsions, sways, tire sizes...) to the list?

Thanks!

rennch 05-19-2004 11:23 PM

never mind...found all the info on your pelican page. Thanks!

(How do we get one of those, anyway?)

ted 05-19-2004 11:28 PM

Jae Lee set the suspension.
T bars 21/30.
S bars 22mm adjustable f&r.
Tires in the pic RA-1 235/40 and 275/40/17.
About -2.8 camber all around.
Very even tire wear.
I have run Hoosiers 245/40 front with the 275/40 rear.
Might try a Victoracer 225/45 front someday.
Did like the Victo 255/40 front but current ride hieght is too low for those now.
Kinda basic, affordable and fun.
I'd like to to find slicks to fit my car?

rennch 05-19-2004 11:30 PM

interesting. What's your overall wheel diameter with that setup? And do you ever run SCCA with it? I think it'd be ASP if you did.

rennch 05-19-2004 11:30 PM

OH...and for the slicks...check out the new AVON's at the Tire Rack website.

ted 05-19-2004 11:38 PM

Overall tire diameter... I'd get it off this site I guess.
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
approx 24.5 and 25.3.

Yeah I'm very interested in the new Avon Tech-R but I have not heard of anyone that has run them yet?
With all the Hoosier 04 and Kumho problems I'm looking for a new tire. The Tech-R appears to be a DOT radial and perhaps not a true slick, correct?
The Toyo Ra-1 tires have been great with 5 track days on them and still more left.

Have not run SCCA, just PCA AM in AX/TT or PCA GT-3S in Club racing. I plan to try a TCRA race group soon.

Is ASP AX racing? If so these SLICKS were pretty awesome in AX racing.

What are the offsets of your wheels? Also was the price with or without you providing donor fuchs?

ted 05-20-2004 01:26 PM

Just over 2k was for the wheels with Jae providing the centers.
He could save you some money if you could provide the centers.
Give Jae a call and he'll answer your spacing questions.

Hey thanks for the info. Also it seems like Mirage has a great deal going on wih the 17inch fuchs

daloff 05-27-2004 03:02 PM

Just a little side information. Since you are in autocross they will let you run the 17s in SCCA I guess. But if you decide to do any Regional/Nation Club racing the largest you can run now is 16" with up to 12" widths.

rennch 05-27-2004 03:04 PM

I'm not too concerned with PCA stuff, to be honest. I'll run in whatever class they put me in. I'm an autocrosser anyway...don't do road racing. Don't have the budget for it!
