DE @ the "Q" today with picts
I haven't been to the "Q" for several years and I went to do the DE event that PCA San Diego put on and it was nice. About 50 cars, bunch of the R-Group hot rods that really looked good. I took our neighbor's 15 year old son and he got a good education in what some of those "strange" paint jobs meant!! He was shocked that we can get to spped we do in a parking lot and then turn like we do so now I figure he'll want a Porsche when he turns 16..... Oh yeah, Weber carbs really do like 3# of fuel pressure not 4.5# as some folks said as my stumbling in the turns disappeared.

Hey John,
That was fun, I'll have to save my dead tires for the next QDE. Clearly the Blue and Orange Gulf car is holding you up in those frames. ![]() Good times, nothing better than a beach city DE in the heat of summer! |

Hey, thanks for posting the picts. I seldom get to see the car in a turn and it looks like it is sitting pretty flat with real good tire contact. Thanks again.

Wish I could have DE'ed Sunday, I think I need at least two or three more AX's after last Saturdays at the Q and I think my PCA Performance Driving school from December 03 counts for a couple of events. Any one know whats the real story on what I need for a DE.

Hi Rick,
I think 6 AX events are required, and your school counts as two AX events. At least thats what it says on the Time Trail page. Time Trials are not an entry level activity. A minimum of 6 Autocross' or 4 Autocross' and a drivers school are required to participate. Additionally, safety equipment requirements are more stringent than for Autocross. See the Zone 8 Rules for details. Time Trials are limited to licensed participants or students. You obtain your license by satisfying at least two instructors that you are competent to run an event unsupervised. It takes at least two events to achieve this. Licenses are issued by Zone 8. Equivalent licenses from other sanctioning bodies are recognized and allowed. On the DE page it says only 2 ax events or the school, I think that may be a misprint. If you try asking your question on the Club forum one of the AX/DE or TT chairs should be able to tell you for sure. The DE events at the stadium are quite the deal for only $80, or $60 if you enter the AX the day before too. Pretty cheap for about 2 hours track time. See ya at the Q. Sorry no shots of RSupdate, Johnny was in the same run group as the photographer...guess he won't let that happen again. ![]() ![]() Last edited by ted; 07-29-2004 at 06:10 PM.. |

What is the "Q"

The Q is for Qualcomm Stadium, it is the home of the Chargers and last year the Padres. Padres have a new stadium this year called Petco Park.
Years ago the Q was known to have the largest parking lot used for AX/DE or TT events on the west coast. Not sure if that is still is true? http://www.sannet.gov/qualcomm/ |

Also, wasn't it originally called "Jack Murphy" Stadium prior to the corporate buyout by Qualcomm?
....or am I thinking of something else here..??
