Mike Marshall,
I just found out from Tyson about what happened. Sorry to hear that. I am not sure what proper etiquette is on something like this. What I do hear is that is a gentlemans sport. Being so, Rupert should be a gentleman and offer some assistance in repairing your car. Him packing and leaving before you even got your car off the track say's a little something about this guys character. I will also offer some labor with Tyson if you need it. I figure that I can pay it foward as I was looking foward to some Drivers Ed from you when my car is finished. BTW, you were the first person to go home and get your trailer and tow Tysons car home(1.5 hrs each way) when he blew his motor. That says alot about your character! Joe

Mike,
Sorry to hear about your little (big) mishap. That is really a tough pil to swallow. IS this the first time you have been hit? It took 3 years of racing before I got hit for the first time. Punted in the right rear going into turn 2-3 at Buttonwillow. Guy did not stop, plowed right into me. I was really pissed off. He did not even come over and say sorry. Did not offer any help what so ever......Took the off season, spent about $5K on the car, bare metal, repaint, new cage work, suspension mods....... First race back, got nailed by a lapped car. He decided it was better to turn right then go straight. Plowed into my left side hard, then I got nailed on the right side by the car trying to pass me. New paint and body work, toast.....Fixed it.... got hit going into turn 2 at Fontana. Lotus spun, backed into my drivers door. 3 years without a hit....... 2 seasons hit 3 times....Oh well. It is part of racing........... I hate to say it but you will get used to it.... You wont like it, but there is nothing you can do....... The most important thing is that YOU are OK.... Sorry about the car.... You will get it back together.... Just look at JP Plavan.... his car looks great.....

Joe, thanks for the offer, I appreciate it. Probably won't mess with it for a month or so. I have a few other things going on. Whenever your ready to go to the track though, let me know.
Mark You had a rough season. My damage is minimal compared to yours. It's funny, I built this car to be my race car first. It isn't my street car although it is street legal. I had another 911 that I was starting to track and thought it was to nice(it was also co-owned with the bank .) to get damaged on the track racing. So I bought my early car. But, no matter how much you mentally prepare yourself that it could get hit, it's still shocking when it happens. Chuck built that beautiful early car for the track, but goes thru a little anxiety every time he hears a rock hit it. I completely understand it though. I hope that I don't get to used to it though, that will mean I'm spending way to much money fixing my car Hans- My rear tire should be here next week, Lets Ride!!!!

Here are a couple of fun pictures taken by some members of AROSC (Alfa Club). Thanks to Rob Rhodes and Mike McKibbin for sharing. Mike also went to great efforts to make sure I got these, thanks Mike! Great pics!
So here's the story in pics of the first couple laps of Saturday's race... So the at the start of the race we had this white Vette that there after referred to our 911s as a swarm of bees! The Vette was pole on start and bogged badly in 3rd, so at turn 1 the 911s swarmed. Here Marshall in the white and red and Mike K in the White and blue 911 swoop the Vette. Here I am in close pursuit, I was side by side with the Vette aproaching turn 1, an off by another car in the previous race had left gravel on the apex so I yeilded to the Vette and gave up the corner. I got by the Vette in T4, Mike K leads coming down the Omega, Marshall must be ahead just out of the frame, just behind me the Vette ready to pounce on the long straight approaching...Polka dot (lowyder993)with the best seat in the house. I made a move to hold the inside of T8 on the back straight and pissed off the Vette driver but held second exiting T9 and then Mike M and I were off to the races. A couple laps later the Vette got 2 off exiting T9 then on the very next lap he got all 4 off at 100mph while Mike K and Lowyder 993 were in close pursuit. ![]() In the above pic you can see me chasing Marshall down the front straight. Marshall and I teamed up and ran in line trying to build a cushion between us and the Vette. I watched my mirrors as the Vette went off, this allowed me focus all my attention on getting Marshall! As it was Marshall was too fast. I got cought in some traffic, Marshall had new Hoosiers (RA1s for me) and if that wasnt enough to overcome halfway through the race I went 4 off exiting turn 3. This now tan Vette was seen soon after at the track car wash. ![]() I think the final top 3 finish was Marshal red and white 911 1st, Mike K in the blue and white 911 2nd, and Lowyder993 Polka dot in 3rd. More pics from Rob Rhodes and Mike McKibbin.
Jack Olsen TT TTOD, how light is that hood? Or is that just just our Good Racers God and his thumb mark on your hood as he presses BB2 firmly onto the track? ![]() The Riz got frimly into the 38s this weekend, Jack did a great job towing John to a new personal best! John is at the track this weekend again, did you find a 36 John?? The Riz on the front straight. Showing he's got the light hood too, I thought you stiffened that? Anthony and his super well prepared Alfa and I enjoyed some friendly point byes as we weaved through an afternoon practice seesion. Thanks for the point bye Anthony! I'm showing a little worse for wear. My off Saturday required a quick fix, a little more than just tape. Thanks to TRE and Dave B for resetting the Toe Sunday morning! I need a new spoiler,,,but I hate spend any money and have it perform/look the same as before, must improve/develop,,what to do?? ![]() BB2 torqueing up the hill. ![]() |

Sunday's race, the evil Vette trys to catch Marshall on the front straight.
Alfa race action,,,, Anthony is in the Alfa with the Yellow front. What you can't see is Anthony on the outside of this turn, in fact a couple treads up is Anthony's vid of this spin, Anthony gets by safely on the outside, close race! Great pic Mike! The Alfa race grid. Alfa's and early 911 sharing the track, very cool! Mike Mckibbin said he might have some more pics later.... |

The evil Vette aftermath, Marshall gets pushed off track, the Vette's version of a safe and clean pass??
![]() Dave B from TRE late brakes, and trail brakes deep into T1. I'm just enjoying the action from the best seat in the house. The little VW Golf had a turbo and good power down the straights but not so fast in the high speed turns.![]() Jack with his game face on, timed runs? Putting on the Ritz, looked good Friday and Sunday too when he put it away. Time yet for an elevated wing for T8 and T2??? nice looking steet car ran well, who's was it? ![]() |

A little bit of Hollywood, Sunday's race winner!
Mike K final editor for 7 years on the Seinfeld show and 5 years on the Frasier show. He knows every Seinfeld show, funny stuff. Last one. Thanks to Michael McKibbin for all the fun shots. I need a new front spoiler, would it be a good idea just to wide body now? Swap the rear 10s for 13s? ![]() Last edited by ted; 11-07-2004 at 08:04 PM.. |

No matter, though. At the end of the first timed lap, I hit traffic from the last cars they let out. My timed laps were all at least a full second off of my earlier sessions, as the slower time trial guys refused to let me pass. I'm glad the mic wasn't picking up what I was saying while stuck behind those other cars. ![]()
