heat cycling, how 'bout this?
i have a new set of vitoracers that i did not have shaved or heat cycled by the vendor. i have reviewed old threads and started a few on this topic, but had a new idea. i was going to cook them in by a spirted back road drive prior to this brain storm/fart.
i heat my house most often with a wood stove (take that smog testers!) due to wood floors throughout mi casa. that being said , what if i was to place the tires about 2 feet from the stove until they get up to 120*-130* on one side, and then flip them around to the otherside to evenly heat them. i would do 2 at a time and elevate them off the cool floor with some wood blocks so they would not be cooler in one area. the tires are mounted on the rims, and i was thinking about 25lbs of air pressure in them cold for this operation. would this be a good idea to do prior to the backroad scuffing, or after, or not at all? what do you think? i figured this by petting my dog as he layed in front of stove the other night. i could barely touch his fir it was so hot. am i nuts? wait, dont answer that.....

yeah i know, i melted my second pair of motocross boots that way when i was a kid. my folks hated buying me boots because i would grow out of them yearly, and $100 bucks was big money in the 70s. i melted a brand new pair of hi-point boot soles beyond recognition. pops gave me the what for on that..
i intended on watching them VERY closely and checking temps with an asphalt thermometer.

Just the heat alone won't do it, that's why the "pre-cycled" tires don't work as well. When you properly heat cycle a tire, you're building heat through stress of the carbon chains and friction. They get hot, relax, and then re-form into the "matrix" that they have been forced into by use.
Having them hot in a standard position won't do much.

thanks chris. when you say "pre-cycled" do you mean the heat cycling service offered by tire rack?

Yup. It build heat, but can't simulate lateral forces. It's just a couple of rollers
