Thunderhill in November - drive off those extra calories...

Hey NorCal track junkies, Speedventures is having a Thunderhill weekend right after Thanksgiving, so you can get some driving out of your system after sitting around eating for two days straight.

I've run with Speedventures before - great group of people. Lots of NSX's and S2000's to play with... tons of track time.

http://www.speedventures.net/11-27-2004_event.asp

Hope to see some Pelican heads out there!

Dean

The weather forecast looks great for this time of the year.

Hey-- that's my number! I guess I can always flip it over and be 806 if we show up at the same event, Dean.

So here's a shot of the other #908 from T-Hill on Saturday. Awfully nice day once the track dried, but it sure was COLD!

Thanks for the picture, Tom. That's pretty sweet. I dropped a second and a half off my best time at Thunderhill on Saturday, so it was a VERY good day for me!! I'm going to stamp this picture with my new record to commemorate it.

I stopped by your car to introduce myself a couple times, but I never connected with you... sorry!

Sunday was just like Saturday minus the morning rain. It was very cold and very windy, but beautifully clear and sunny. Smstcoach was out there for his first track day and did great! He was dropping a lot of time with each session and each lap.

We ran the by-pass on Sunday, the first time I'd done that. That has to be the scariest piece of track that I've driven on! It's an extremely sharp crest and a very off camber downhill right over the crest. I still wasn't comfortable there by the end of the day. Anyone want to share their wisdom on how to approach this "turn"?

Cheers,

Dean

Dean,

PM me with your e-mail address, and I'll send you the full 2.5 MByte version of the photo. Much more suitable for enlarging.

We'll meet up "at the next one"!

Man I wish I could have gone! I was reading a parallel thread on the M3 board; one of the M3 guys was down in the 2:06 range - that's where I need to be!

Wish you were there, Thom. I can't even dream of a 2:06, though I was only able to get down to 2:09 and don't know were to get more than about another second. Of course, back when I was running 2:15, I thought I couldn't go any faster then, either

Was the Bimmer running 2:06's supercharged? There was 3 series something or other there (I don't know my BMW's) that SOUNDED supercharged that seemed to really be gettin' it down the front straight.

about the bypass, I have always found the key was to iniate the turn before the crest of the hill and hold a steady line over the hill, then tighten the turn at the bottom in the compression.

Dean,
Thanks for all your help getting me through my first track experience. I'm still buzzing from the great day. I would tell you how to tackle the bypass, but... Well, you know.
Looks like a PCA event at Thunderhill in April. I'll be there. Do you know of any Autocross events in the next few months?

Dean-
Is this the part they call the "Cyclone" (turns 5a & 5b on the track map?)

I have only run the track once, and it was CCW, including that section. I thought "the bypass" meant you would go straight from 4 and skip that section. Is it the other way around?

Which configuration were you running when you did the 2:09?

TT
