looking for a race car

Hey guys,

I'm triing to help a friend look for a track car. He is a newbie and doesnt have any experience but has gotten a taste of the bug. I called racers group and spoke to paul and also spoke to Dave at TRE.

Can you guys help me with some resources of places that might list Porsches. Something along the lines of a C2 or 993 with most of the mods already done.

Thanks for the help!

Its not a C2 or a 993, but Chris Streit has a nice race car with a sweet 3.2 short stroke for sale.

You may want to call Jeff Stone at Kelly-Moss Motorsports. They have cars available from time to time.

A guy here in San Diego was selling his black 993 widebody which was prepped by the Racer's Group awhile back. Don't know if it's gone, but if that fills the bill, email me and I'll put you in touch with him.

I was talking with Tyson Schmidt(who will do the upkeep) and we were thinking about finding our friend a C2 and doing some mods to it. Sung wants to spend around 40K. Tyson and I were thinking about a used C2 which are going for under 20K. Around the same price as carreras. Its pretty crazy. Then we have 20K for the mods. C2 already has a 3.6 that runs on pump gas. No need for 5-6 per gallon on race fuel. Areo undertray, great brakes, coilovers, anti lock brakes... I think it would be great to have a light weight C2 that he could drive to the track. Sung told us that if he likes it he will get something different down the line. This by the way is all talk if we were to find a car that was already built he would consider that option. In the mean time I will look into the leads that you guys have suggested. Thanks for all the help!

Joseph,
I have 2 964 race/track cars for sale. Both are recent correct builds very nicely done 1rst one is a 92 club race ready, 2nd is a 93 with full DE prep. Both are great cars that are for sale cheaper than you could build them for. PM me for details

Joseph,

If this Sung is a FRIEND, do him a big favor and go over the math carefully - build versus buy.

Generally, if an individual wants to involve HIMSELF in the cutting and grinding and welding and purchasing and wrenching and adjusting involved in prepping a racer, we suggest he BUILD a car. In that way, he is intimately familiar with the entire development, and is also paying for his education along the way.

However, if he is having someone else do the work, neither the economics nor the education is there. In this scenario, it will ALWAYS be more beneficial to BUY a well prepared car. As long as the build was done to spec, and the modifications were made properly, he will save himself a bundle, and spend time on the track - not in the garage!

Thanks Ed and I do agree with what you are saying. We went over the different possibilities this weekend. Whatever car Sung decides to get will be too much for him. It would be nice to find the "right car". We are triing to see what we can get for the price range he has.

Dan Jacobs,
I PMed you for more details on the 2 cars. Thanks.
