BayArea Trans Rebuild Party (photos)

AddictionMS (Jim), Lonehill (Stover), and I got together this weekend for rebuild party of my new '73 915 direct from Rattlsnak (Marc) in the ATL. We tore it down, flipped the syncros (they were in great shape anyways), installed a Wevo bearing retainer, and put in a new gasket set. There were a few small issues along the way, but we managed to get the job done in a short 5 hours. Jim took some photos so we could share them with all of you (especially you poor saps who are stuck in the cold!):

The carcas:

diff and mid-case:

1st, 2nd, 3rd gears

Wevo retainer:

Stover and I flip the syncros:

pressing the input shaft back together:

This is my new "date me" photo. SWM seeks... Yeah, Im a ham, I can't help it.

This trans will be going in my SC powered '74 Targa. She should be drivable in 2 weeks, I can't wait.

hey, there was the "possibility" of refreshments served.....there was Subway for lunch, thanks to the wife, it just was one of those private Hollywood parties, you know where its who you know that gets you invited. Much like the one this weekend in my garage where the motor goes into the race car and we, meaning me, see if I really have any clue what I am doing. Varooom or babooom.

Consider that an invitation which requires an RSVP

not sure if it will be Saturday or Sunday, probably Saturday

Too bad this is such a big sports weekend, don't forget the 24s of Daytona, I think it is this weekend as well.

That said I am rushing towards a first race on Feb 20th, so there is no time to wait, sorry

My engine and trans are going back in the car tonight, hopefully with the help of some friends. I was finally able to stop painting and cleaning everything... it took a support group, some counseling, a bit of medication, but I think Im ready to let it go. I'll have it back together just in time to kick it around the block before I head to Vancouver for a week on business

Larry- Free? Free as in no money? Lucky duck.

The motor and trans went in just fine last night, though it took twice as long as I was thinking it would. Clutch it attached, CVs are torqued, oil is in the case.... but she won't start

It cranks and cranks, and every so often there is a stumble, but it won't turn over. I don't have the time to look at this week, maybe when I get back from Canada.

Larry- Im flattered, but I won't be out there this year. Id like to instruct sometime though, that would be cool. I need to figure out how to get involved.

It fired last night, runs like a champ. The CIS was not primed properly after I took the injectors out. A simple lift of the "barndoor" with the fuel pump running and she fired right up.

pictures to come soon.

I'll be back on the 18th, but there is still a bunch of odds and ends that need to be cleaned up before I can actually drive the beast Probably wont be able to make a run that weekend.

A loud chunking noise is coming from the engine, we think it may be a loose rocker. I won't be able to check it until Saturday when I get home. Cross your fingers for me guys.

Vancouver is beautiful, this is a fantastic city. I rode Whistler on Saturday and they even had a few inches of fresh! That mountain is hands-down the best snowboarding I've ever seen, simply amazing. I may never waste my time and money on Tahoe again.

he leaves the sheet ice of east coast skiing and is granted a mere 3 hour drive to tahoe and now he's hammering it? i am calling customs and recommend them give you the cavity search upon your return. or just have them ship you back to michigan.
