Willow v. Streets time differential: what am I doing wrong?

Looking at recent POC times from the Big track at willow (TT) vs my times in a previous session, then comparing some of the same cars/drivers at Streets, I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong at Streets.

For example at Streets I was running pretty much a dead heat with another II class car. At the big track I was 8 seconds faster (admittedly a different day, but...). Comparing with IP cars, at the big track I ran about the same time (plus or minus a second) but was about 4 seconds *slower* than them at Streets.

So am I not being aggressive enough at Streets? Ideas? I've got two days at Streets coming up in a week in a half so I'm trying to run the course in my mind and figure out where I can pick up time.

Nostatic, I'm IP as well. Sat was my first time at Big Willow in a while, ran 1:42's on better (not best) laps. I think I should be able to do 1:35s with more practice. I'm 1:18 avg on the streets with no bowl. Hoping to drop that by 1-2 secs with practice. Car 629

Happy to compare cars/etc if you like

grudk that would be cool. Will you be at the STS this month? I run in II class (bigger sways are my only mod). I think my car is capable of sub 1:40 at the big track...I'll have to have Tyson pilot it and see what he can wring out of it. I'm hoping to drop a few seconds off my streets time too...seat time good.

Looks like you are running very good times for a near-stock car. Nice driving!

I may try to make it out for the next STS, but my old temps were about 270 on Sat., so I'm planning to install a bigger front-mounted cooler first.

My car is a '74 Carrrera with an SC motor and SSI's/early exhaust, so maybe 180-90 hp. A bit lighter than a standard SC. Never weighed it but probably about 2400-2500 lbs. Wheels are 8s and 9s. Bigger sway/t-bars and turbo tie rods. Bolt-in cage, recaros, harnesses. Running Kuhmos now.

Used to run an RS America. That was quite a bit faster down the front stretch, but the new (older) car is much faster in the twisties -- due to weight I'm sure.

Those are good times with your car... do not complain :)

I ran a 1:28 with the "bowl" clockwise (streets) That was my first time there. My first "real" weekend at Willow I ran a 1:36. That was with crappy tire pressures. We race at Big Willow again in 2 weeks. My goal is a 1:34.
Seat time pays off.

I'm not complaining...I'm pretty happy. I was just suprised at the difference between the two tracks. I would have though that I'd be relatively slower on the big track since I'm not a "ultimate velocity" kind of guy, and don't go full flat in 8. But I do have more time on that track, and have got a lot of the corners pretty well figured out (whether I can execute is another question).

We'll see how next weekend goes. Seat time good :D
