Helmet painting
I'm thinking of painting my helmet for next season, tired of the cue ball look. Has anyone done this themselves. I was thinking of doing this in my garage. Maybe flat black with some silver/red accents. Could this bee done? Doesn't have to look super excellent, but don't want it to look like a p.o.s. either.
Silly queation to follow: Do I need an airbrush or chance it with a rattle can??

Some good masking tape, prep work, rattle cans, and clear coat. You should be OK...

I thought I remember reading that you should never put any chemicals on your helmet. I would think paint too.
any thoughts? I guess you only know if it was OK after an impact ![]() -Chris

If you read the little manual that comes with helmets, it specifically mentions which paints to use, and which not to use.

I've always loved this helmet paint scheme, but I've never had the b@lls to have my own helmet painted this way.
Just an idea for your upcoming project... Tom ![]()

Now that's just funny! Especially if your that's a dirt bikers helmet. Can you imagine the guy behind him...that would piss ya off a bit. I'm not quite that artistic. I'll read my manual to see if I can do something basic with a rattle can.

We painted my helmet when we were painting the car. Next, we applied some graphics from Troy Lee Designs and then clearcoated over that. Looks expensive but it was not!

There was a very good article in a recent copy of Vintage Motorsport magazine detailing the steps to painting a helmet. It was done by a pro, but it was full of good ideas.
