First DE in 2 weekends: any pointers?

I'm already psyched! I'll be doing a PCA DE at Lime Rock Park Sept 14-15th. Just had tech last night: car checked out great! (One of the guys said, "It's too dry under here" when looking for leaks!)

So: I've done autocross events, and I have a tiny track experience (driving Mercedes AMG's for a few laps at Pocono). I've read some books (Secrets of Solo Racing, Vic Elford's High Performance driving..etc). So I understand the concepts: late apex, heel and toe, trail braking..etc. But now it's for real.

Anyone have any tips, comments, suggestions, etc. that I can take to the track?

Thanks,
-Zoltan.

This is a link to a PDF file that was created by CVR-PCA. It deals specifically with DE at LRP.

http://cvrpca.org/cvrguide.pdf

If we have time at the AX on Saturday we can talk about how to drive LRP

Oh yeah you should sign up for the CVR event at Pocono at the end of October we are running the full course.

Just have fun. That's my best advice.

Don't worry about going fast the first few times. Concentrate on hitting your apex correctly, learn and understand your limits and be safe.
This is also a good time and place to learn tire pressure setups. You already know some of it from doing AutoX but on the big track, the setup differs a bit, perhaps less oversteer than in AutoX.
Make friends, these are the guys that you'll be sharing the track with so you want to know them. And if you plan on eventually racing your car, these are also the guys that you'll be racing with.
Most of all, just have fun. Good luck.

David

Nevermind that was last weekend, I'll be there this weekend. How did you like it?

Drew:
DE is AWESOME! I had such a blast! One of the best parts of the event was 'entertaining' my instructor! I would hear him laugh, give a thumbs up, or give a little Homer Simpson 'woo-hoo' when I was doing things right! He said that my autox experience and the reading I've done about performance driving helped tremendously, and he wished all of his students would have done the same! Derek Teijten was my instructor: do you know him? Awesome guy: great teacher! He involved in PCA club racing.

By the end of the event, he said he's going to recommend that I get bumped up to the Yellow run group. (from newbie Green) He was also teaching me trail braking at the start of the second day. I was able to properly execute trail braking into Big Bend a few times: boy do you get set up for that corner better with it!

A friend of mine timed me for a lap: 1 minute, 15 seconds. Is that a good time?

Thanks for asking: Can't wait for the next event!! (Can ya tell I'm hooked?!?!)

Derek!

Yes I know Derek he's a friend of mine. He used to work at the shop with us. He is an excellent instructor, driver, and if he wanted to be he would be an excellent technican.

Glad you had a good time, you couldn't have asked for a better instructor.
