We welded a bracket through the opening for the radio. I had the Simpson net but it didn't really work and moved to the BSR net which works very well because the ratchet mechanism makes it easy to get it tight. If anything, it's a little low. I like JP's mount. I'll track down a pic.

For JP, or anyone, is the ratchet device mandated? Would seem a simple buckle arrangement (like a seat belt bracket) would work. Thanks, Jim

Not mandated, but highly effective. Otherwise, it's difficult to get it as tight as you want with the three straps attaching to different points on the cage.

Please be extremely careful to get the height of your right side net set correctly when installing it. The top "strap" of the net must pass throught the center-of-gravity of your helmeted-head to be effective. if the net is any higher, your head is likely to tuck under the strap and cause a compression in your neck. If the net is any lower, the net will hold your shoulder still and your head will tip over the top and stretch your neck. Both situations are bad.

The installation here is just as important as your harness installation - do it wrong and you could do more harm than good.

Dean is spot on there... I spent probably 4 hours getting in and out of my car to make sure it was right... WHen it was off, I could see that it might hurt something if you went over or under it.

I find this (getting the position right) discussion a bit disturbing. If it's true that you want to line the center of gravity of your head up with the strap, not the net, why not just install a wide strap? Or a bungee cord from the helmet over to the roll cage? I don't question the idea of getting lined up properly, just wonder why somebody thinks the net is a good idea at all? I suppose the answer is that it ain't perfect but it's better than nothing. For myself, I think we need a better mousetrap. Jim

The point of the net is to hold the head (and neck) and the body close together relative to each other. If you just had a strap, your held might be held in place while your shoulders could move violently to the side. The V shaped net is designed to "catch" your upper body (head and shoulders) in a side impact.

There is a comprehensive SAE paper about right side impacts and nets that is a must read - #2004-01-3513. Well worth the $12-14 they charge. You can see in the results of those tests why so many race sanctioning bodies are now requiring right side protection...
