Plastic/lexan etc window question

hi guys

i'm re-classing my rally car for 2008 and will be able to run plastic/lexan windows. the front 1/4 windows, the rear screen and the rear side windows are sorted. however, i'm wondering how best to do the main door windows.

the two most common approaches seem to be a pull strap (similar to a 911R setup) or a fixed panel with a slidable opening.

please share what you have tried and found to work or not work etc.

Ryan,
I have lexan side windows in 964 Cup car, they fit into stock location w/o any provison to raise or lower except by hand. Seems to work just fine. If you needed to raise or lower window much it would be a PITA.

I used a pull strap at the bottom with a snap for fixing it in the upright position. Not very convenient to get up and down but it did work and saved the weight of the window mechanism... I liked it better the the slide opening mainly because of egress. If you have to get out in a hurry, I imagine it's hard to get out of that sliding panel.

Ryan,
Just the friction of the plastic against the felt. Unfortunately car is 500 miles from me, if I get down for a visit I'll snap a pic of two for you.

Ryan, I have the lexan pull up windows on my hotrod. I think they work great and add to the look of the interior - not that you are concerned about that. Mine is not a track car per se. I would recommend the pull strap lexan windows.

On my car I used a leather pull strap. At the bottom of the Lexan window I just drill a hole and bolt the strap to it. For the holder on the door I just used a bolt and machine the tread off the end and did kind of a ball at the end so that the strap doesn't pull away by itself. Using the remaining tread I just bolt it to the door and poke a hole in the door panel. You can see it a little in the picture below.

I have a complete set of Lexan here for my car (less the windshield). It will go in after the car comes back from paint.

Do you have a pic with the window up to see how much strap is inside the car??

Cheers
