Sparco Evo2plus fit in 75 911s?
Hey Pelicanheads-
Hope everyone had a great turkey day. I just sat in the sparco evo2plus seats at wine country motorsports and I'd like to purchase a set for my car. Before I purchase the seats, I'd like to ask the two questions below and see what you guys think. 1. Will they fit in the car? 2. I'm a tall guy and the top of the shoulder belt hole is just above my shoulder, so it looks like the belt will be horizontal, or almost horizontal coming out the back of the seat. Is this ok or should the hole be higher than my shoulder? 3. bonus question: What's the pros & cons of five vs six point belts. Is one type easier to mount or more comfortable? Thanks for the comments. Dale

1. Don't have the answer here but you should ask the guys selling those seats. You can also take measurements for fit. My guess would be they would.
2. From your description the holes sound like they work but you may need some expert help here. Call the guys here for some expert advice. http://www.hmsmotorsport.com/ Also this sight is very helpful. http://www.schroth.com/installation-instructions/en/index.html You need to consider what the harness is attaching to as well. If it is a roll bar then make sure the roll bar has a harness bar at the correct height to attach the shoulder belts properly. The Schroth site will give you help in this regard. 3.As for 5 or 6 points think about how Big Jim and the twins will feel in an impact with a belt up the middle or one on each side. ![]()

I have a pair of EvoIIs in my '76 and if the EvoII plusses are any larger (wider), I think you may have a problem. I posted some pictures months ago, but the "wings" on mine right near your shoulders all but touch the piece of trim that goes along the top edge of the doors and these same wings almost touch in the center of the car. I would make sure they are no wider than an EvoII before proceeding....

Jerry and mike-
thanks for the comments. I'm going to call sparco on friday and see what they say about fit. I'll also look at the dims in the sparco catalog and see what dims are different on the sparco evo2 and sparco evo2 plus. on the six point belts, how do the crotch belts attach? regarding the rollbar attachment, I've been talking to dave @ tre and will make sure the harness bar is at the right height. thanks for the comments. dale

Dale, the anti sub belts need to attach to eyebolts that are through bolted in the floor. You need to look very carefully at the Schroth installation for the exact location for distance between the bolts and the relation to the pass thru hole in the seat. You will need to have the seat your going to use and locate it in the proper driver location for it to work properly.
Also the eyebolts made for harness attachment come with large washers but I recommend you use a little more backing than that. The center of the floor pan tends to deflect quite a bit so you may want to reinforce the floor a little more. I used a piece of small steel channel and attached it horizontally underneath the floor pan to give a little more support. Paying close attention to the Schroth site will help your installation be a safe one.

Jerry & Mike-
Called sparco and they have never installed a set of sparco evo2plus seats in a 911, so they didn't know if the seats would fit or not. When I asked sparco if they'd let me try the seats and if they fit I'd buy them, sparco indicated they would not do it. Also saw an early 911 at the laguna DE with sparco evo2's and there was hardly any space between the seat & body and the seats themselves. summing it up, I don't know what to do. crap..

Can you find a shop that has a showroom with demos of those seats? If so maybe you can go there and get the shop to let you fit one in. You could drive there with the passenger seat out and maybe just set the seat in there for fit.
Also you should post this on the rennlist drivers ed and racing board. There are tons of Pcar racers over there and I would bet someone there has tried those seats. Here is the link. http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=65 I hang out there some. Say the word and I will ask the question for you.

The most important measurement is the width of the shoulder bolsters, which is where the seats would contact each other and the top of the doors. Since we know that a pair of Sparco EVO2 seats are a very close fit (mine are), then if the EVO2+ is any wider it will likely not work.
Edit: Just checked the Sparco sizing chart (available for download here: http://www.sparcousa.com/seats_comp.asp) and the shoulder width of the EVO2+ is actually slightly smaller than the EVO2. The seat base is also slightly smaller. Last edited by JP911; 12-12-2007 at 11:53 AM.. |

I did a search on rennlist and appears several guys have installed these seats so take it for what it is worth but I say they would fit.

Jerry & Jon-
good to hear some guys over on rennlist have been able to install the seats. i'm going to take your suggestion and give wine country motorsports a call on thursday to see if they'd be alright with me testing the seats in the car. also, what do you guys think about one seat being an evo2plus and one seat just an evo? have a good night. dale

Dale, there really is no problem mixing the two seats as long as the seat backs are not to wide at the top as JP911 discussed.
