SOLD!

Moving up to enclosed trailer and need to sell my 2006 Carson open trailer that has been used to haul my 1968 911 vintage racer around SoCal. Trailer was picked up at the factory in April 2006 and cost about $2500 including options such as winch mount, drop axles, spare tire and mount, brake away safety system, 4 5,000# D-rings and special 5-foot diamond plate covered ramps. Also has dove tail for easy on/off. Other features include electric brakes, 2 5/16 receiver. Easily towed by my F-150. Asking $1800.

I might be interested. Do you know the weight of the trailer?

GVW is 7,000 pounds and I think the trailer itself weighs about 1500-1700 pounds. If you need an exact weight, I can go to my storage place over the weekend and read it off the i.d. sticker. I bought it before I got my F-150 and I was thinking I might buy a mid-sized SUV for towing so I wanted to keep the total weight of race car and trailer below 5,000 lbs.

Thanks. It looks like the Carson California Hauler which I think is a fairly light trailer for steel. Don't put yourself out checking that. I need to check into shipping costs or whether I'd have an excuse to get down there to bring it up here. There are Carson dealers up here but I know they don't inventory these trailers so it would need to be shipped if I bought a new one as well. Where are you exactly? I'm aiming to keep things around 3,500 lbs if I can. I assume the car will be close to 2,000 lbs it's a 69 912 race car which is in the early build stage.

It is the Carson California Car Hauler. My 1968 911 racer weighs a bit over 2,000 lbs so the 912 should work great. DEpending on how much of a diet plan you put the 912 on, it should easily weigh less given the lighter engine weight.

I'm in South Orange County, the trailer lives in Rancho Santa Margarita. No idea what shipping would be but it's a good excuse to take the kids to Disneyland or just hit the beach for a day or two.

BTW, I raced a 912 before I got the 911, both are fun cars to race and I know other guys who started with a 912 then moved to a 911.

Thanks. How quick are you looking to get rid of it? Might be a good excuse to come see some friends and spend a week on a road trip. I have a buddy in Orange and one in the Bay area but I couldn't get down there until mid to late February at the earliest.

I think the 912 will be a good choice for the vintage group I'm targeting. The 911 is an option later. My buddy who is helping me build the car has all of the conversion bits necessary to repower it with a 2.0 911 motor later if I want to.

I think you may have what I was searching for today. My primary concern is the length of the ramps. My 82SC has been lowered to european levels. Will the valance drag on loading or unloading? Or do I simply need to ge longer ramps? If so, how will they mount on the trailer? thanks for the info. Dave

Hi Dave,

My 68 911 vintage racer sits pretty low with an S spoiler in front and megaphone exhaust hanging down in back which is why I had Carson make me the 5-foot long ramps (4-foot ramps are the norm). I use a short length of 2X4 to ease the transition to the ramp and have no problems. These ramps are as long as you want to go. BTW, I back my car on for better weight distribution on the trailer and everything still clears easily fore and aft.

16 foot open trailer

Thank you for the reply and additional info. Where is the trailer located? I should have a final answer on the purchase by Monday. Hopefully for my sake it will still be available. Don't give up an opportunity to sell waiting for my reply. Go for it ASAP. Thanks again Dave.

Dave,

The front of my SC also hits on the ramps of my ATC aluminum trailer. I solved this by using a "Pre-Ramp" made of pieces of wood and place the trailer ramps on the high end of the pre-ramp. The pre-ramps are about two feet long and about 2.5 inches high on the highest point (3/4" high on the lowest point). The are basically three pieces of wood in three lengths nailed together to form a ramp. SOunds simple, but this is really all I need to make it work. I'm sure you can do the same. I'll shoot a photo of my Pre-ramps this weekend.

The angle of the ground around where you load your trailer will also cure or cause hitting issues.

Noel

Don't know if this is still available but it's a good deal. I've been pricing them through the dealer here and $1,800 is a great deal for a trailer with these options. I should also mention I test fit my 82 SC which is lowered about as much as you can get on the carson standard car hauler without the drop axles and we were able to get it on there fine with 6 foot ramps.

I've been considering a trailer. It's a toss-up between the hassle of renting vs. the hassle of storing one. But, a well priced unit with the right features makes the choice easier.

Does yours have brakes (a must for me) and does the left side fender drop or rotate? If not, how do you get out of the car when you load it on the trailer (assuming you don't back it on)? Thanks.
