G2X users... I have question !

Hi,

Just recently got my G2X from Chris (cstreit; great experience BTW) so am newbie on that, but its been proven to be VERY useful!

Now the question - is there a way to configure the display to show specific segment time on the track?

thanks!

white85carrera 08-20-2008 08:29 AM

I have had a G2X for a couple years now. I am pretty sure sgement times are only available after DL to the PC. The display is not set up for that readout.

I couldn't find any reference to configuring the display in that manner, however their tech support is quite good, they'll know.

I suspect that it's this sort of thing they want you to upgrade the display to the IQ3 display-dash (no data logging).

Thanks guys... heard back from Tim @ Racepak about this question.

As White85Carrera said, the unit can't do it right now. I'd like to lobby them to add that - this is probably one of the most useful tool when you are finding the last 1/10th IMHO.
And other competitive product like DL-1 can do that...

While I'm at it - how do you guys improve segment times then?

I analyze the data when I get home, but sometimes its way more useful to try 3-4 laps; each with slightly different line/speed. But without segment times, really doesn't help :(

Rather than segment times, can you configure it to show minimum speed in each corner? I find this a great approach as it provides corner-by-corner feedback instead of a whole track segment.

If you don't have a laptop at the track with you to analyze your data afer you come off the track, then get one. Laptops have come down in price enough that it's not a huge investment anymore. In addition to downloading the data from the GX2, you can also use it to keep notes on weather and track conditions, car setups, and anything else you want.

...or to play movies on to keep your kids out of your hair. (At least that's where my fancy data aquisition reviewing, note keeping, wireless, cordless, laser laptop always goes)

Basically, you cannot configure the G2X to display anything related to segments as the definition is only defined on your laptop data. So no.... :(

Yes, I have a laptop! And yes, I bring it with me to the track too & do download all kinds of data (including my ECU logs). But, it does not help when you want to try 3 lines in 3 laps and see which one is better. Yes, I know I can remember what I did, come off, download, .... but then why pay for technology?

white85carrera 08-22-2008 08:56 AM

I work on one corner at a time and check exit speed at a consitent track out point.....That will give an indication of which may be fastest, then I double check against the data and take notes.......when/if I remember(!).

Are you aware the G2X lets you plot each of your laps on the trackmap, so you can see what line you took and then compare corner speeds, exit speeds, etc, for each of those laps? You can overlay all the laps to see variance in your line, and you can use the slider on the speed graph to see what your speed is anywhere on the lap, not just at the segments.

I try to do the same we well, that's why the quest for segment time :( Even if I set the G2X to display speed, I won't be consistent enough to look at exactly time X after corner Y... plus not all corners allow you to do that ;)

Yes I know that and am using them... but I'm hoping for faster "turn around time" right on track.

Don't get me wrong, I'm totally with everyone on post-analysis, but sometimes having the real-time feedback right there is highly valuable.

Have you looked into the predictive lap timing functionality?

Hi Chris,
Tim @ Racepak suggested that as well. I haven't tried it yet. Do you have more info as to what/how it shows? Tim said that it shows the predictive time of the lap for every 300 ft segments?

Do I need specific firmware (how do I check that) to use this? I tried to program one of the user display to show this, but when selected, the display just remained blank.

Sorry about the many G2X questions...

thanks!

cstreit 08-25-2008 07:36 PM

Hmm... It's been a while since I set it up on the G2X. You should have that as yours has the latest software and firmware. I'd talk to their tech-support team, they're really very good. I don't recall having any issues but the last one I setup was 2-3 firmware releases ago when it first came out. That release came out Feb 2008. I'd call them and double-check which firmware version you have. Then the link to the predictive lap timing release is here at the bottom: http://www.g2extreme.com/downloads.htm

hobieboy 08-26-2008 07:10 AM

Thanks Chris... will check with their tech to see which firmware i have & go from there...
