Anybody used the Nittoi NT05 on the track yet

Still waiting on my 2nd set of Jeff Alton Fuchs - not sure they will arrive by the track date - I have the new Nitto NT05 that I decided to use for street tires mounted - was wondering if anybody has had them on the track yet?

I just got a set...

in 18". The research I did with folks that drive with these tires on the track is that they are as good as RA-1s, maybe better. One of our best Cayman S drivers swears by them....he also is very positive about the wear of these tires.

The dilemma for me is to shave or not shave the tire. At 6/32....in contrast to the 8/32 of RA-1 tread depth, the tire may not need to be shaved to 4/32...still pondering this.

Rumor has it that Nitto is owned by Toyo...

Martin~

Are you sure that's not the "NT01" your referring to?

I think the NT05 is more of a street tire, while the 01 is purely for track. I've also heard that it's the same rubber formulation and tire sidewall as the RA1...

I agree. The NT-01 I now run on my Jeff Alton track wheels is a lot like my old RA1, and a lot better than the R888 that are now my backup set.

NT-05 is supposed to be a competitor to the Falken RT615, more of an extreme performance street tire that can be used for autox. But the folks I know who have tried the RT615 at the track that are advanced/instructor level drivers have said the 615 is sticky for a few laps then go away big time. I suspect the NT-05 will be pretty much the same. But while not in the same league as an R-comp, they're still going to be better than a street tire.

Yes these are the NT05 - I bought these as street tires - one of my BMW friends has run them at the track (and they did not go away after a few laps) just wondered if any porsche people have.

I have a set of RA1 that I plan on using for track tires and will then probably switch over to NT01's. Thanks for the feedback. looks like my 2nd set of wheels may well be here before my next DE

Big thumbs up for these - great turn in - very progressive. great tires - very sticky. They did not "go away" and I was pushing them pretty hard in the heat of the day. Not quite RA1 stick - but pretty darn close - and less than 1/2 the cost - Woo Woo. You can drive down to the track in them - 200 wear rating - they did not get the big rubber "boogers" on them like some of the other street tires I have had - all in all a lot of bang for the buck

Reviving an old thread. . .

Any more info on the NT05 at the track? I've read some reviews and it sounds like they're better in the rain than you'd expect. I'm thinking about putting them on a car that will get 90% street use, but that will see a few track days a year. I don't want a R Dot like the RA1. Any more opinions out there? Jeremy, are you still pleased with these tires as time has passed?

Yes - good all purpose - but did not get much wear especially out of the rears (and had to replace when I sold my car ~5000 miles (but I think there were more miles in the)

Not quite RA1 sticky at the track - but pretty darn close.

I like the NT-01s... pretty awful for the first day (mine were full tread), but they get good. They seem to wear a lot faster than the Toyo RA1s.
