Finished 914-6 Race Car
After 11 years of tinkering I am calling this car complete. The pictures are from a test day at Road Atlanta. It only rained for my session, made for slippery conditions on Hoosier TD's.
The car is a 2.0 liter 914-6 built for HSR competition. Exiting turn 5 ![]() In turn 5 ![]() In the pits ![]() |

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to notice and yes there is a story behind it. Good call Briana.
Twelve years ago I asked the HSR if I could run my TIGA 1980 S2000 in there vintage race. They said no because it was too much of a spec class. Do I sold the car to a friend of mine and started work on the 914. I have only raced a right hand drive car so it was a natural to convert the car. Additionally, it makes sense in road racing since most tracks are clockwise. That means mostly right hand turns. Put the driver on the right and you do not punish the front left tire as badly. For those who were wondering that thing in the middle is a mirror, from my 1980 TIGA. neil |

Car looks nice Neil ... couple questions from a fellow 914/6 racer ... that is an interesting looking (and large) exhaust exit in the last picture. What kind of setup is that? Also, is the trans a 901?
Feel free to post more pics : ) Scott |

The mufflers I am using are Supertrapps Without the cover plates. They are stainless 4" I think. I cut off the back side of the muffler and welded on a flat plate that was machined to have the same mounting hols as the stock muffler. Here is the best picture I could find showing the mufflers.
![]() The gearbox is a 901. I added the oil pump and cooler since I heard this would help the box live longer. The pump is from ebay, old NASCAR pump from a Ford rear end, same with the mount. I machined the pulley for the half shaft. ![]() Here I am in a good shot from the front. The oil cooler takes in air from the front and exits the air out the cowl. You can see I have added an additional grill (under the helmet). ![]() |

Thanks everyone for the kind words. The car is actually 1600 lbs before you add the fat guy. The hoods and doors are carbon fiber and honeycomb. Bumpers and fenders are glass.

I like how you blended the roll bar into the targa.
Very nice. |

What Neil isn't saying is that his car is more like a sports racer cleverly disguised as a Porsche 914 - but with less power (old guys don't want to scare themselves too badly). Lots of nice work in this thing - and with the megaphones its really, really loud.

Stink is the right word for it. I picked the wrong cams. The motor only puts out 110 Hp. I will get that straight hopefully over the winter.
