225/45 - 15 on 7" cookie cutters. Will they fit a 74 911 ?

My brother sold his E30 M3 BMW and has a lightly used set of Nitto R compounds in the above size.

I am currently running Kumhos in 205/50-15 Anyone know if the 225s will fit with out rubbing?

Thanks

Mike Bennett

well...

There is a .75" width difference between the tires you're running now and the those wider 225s. The 15x7's are a common wheel used on the narrow body 911s and are certainly compatible with the narrow rear fenders.

So take your hand, which is just about .75" tall and stuff it under your rear fenders between it and the tire and see if you've got room. If you can put your hand in there between the tire and fender and also the tire and unibody, then yeah, they'll probably fit.

The offset of the wheel isn't going to change, just the overall width, and you're only increasing the overall by .75", so really ~.35" on each side.

Is your car lowered/slammed to the ground?
Are your torsions stock?
Do you have a swaybar?

I really don't think so. At least with 7" Cookies. I run 205/50 Hoosiers(wider than most that size) mounted on 7"Cookies and if I run anything less than -2.2 camber in the rear, they rub. Of course I did not roll my fender lip either. So I usually try to get around -2.7 to -3.0 camber and no problems with the 205's. Interested if your setup works.

Hi,
Thanks for the input.

The car is lowered to Euro height and, according to the original owner, it has slightly stiffer torsion bars. Koni dampers are installed front and rear. The car has had a weight balancing alignment by a Porsche expert. I confess that I do not know the settings though. It has the stock suspension other than the above.

Here is a couple of pictures of the car with the suspension loaded up with the Kumhos on mismatched 7" wheels.

It is great fun to drive as is and the Kumhos really seem to stick.

I would appreciate any comments as to simple things to do that might improve the set up as well, based on the photos.

Cheers,

Mike Bennett
