tire/wheel balancing

I am planning to take my tires and wheels to the local Goodyear shop for mounting and balancing. They said they don't have any sort of high speed balance but can program their balancer to put the weights on the outside and inside or just inside.
Would this regular type balancing be good enough for the track? Is there any preference for where the weights go for the optimum balance?

Most sporty rims get stick on weights on the inside these days. It is best to tape them down as well with metallic tape when going to the track as the rims can get very hot. Clean the rim well before applying the weights and tape. Brake temperatures can reach cigarette lighting temps on high speed tracks.

The best balance is achieved by puting weights on the outside & inside of the wheel. It is also best to test the bare wheel to see how much out of balance the wheel is before a tire is mounted. If this does not solve a high speed balance problem (80mph + ) you can have the tires balanced on the car with a high speed strobe balancer.

Do yourself a favor and go somewhere where they have the latest Hunter equipment...gsp 900 I think but you can look at their balancing equipment on the web. It simply does a better job. Using this equipment a pro should have no trouble giving you perfect balance with the weights on the inside. And cover them with duct tape when you are done.

I will only have my track wheels and tires balanced on a Hunter RF9700 Road Force machine. Can put a simulated load on the tire to best seat the tire bead and can check wheel and tire runout too. But a machine is only as good as the person operating it and how well it's been maintained and calibrated.
