This thread is a great place to start:
A lap in my new girly boxster

There are many other weight loss threads here. Every Kg matters. Don't forget Jenny Craig. Lightening the spacer behind the wheel has multiple benefits.

Thank you for the link - I have already done most of the stuff that has been done to that car as well (within the regulations we have). I am now at the small stuff - excluding changing body panels to fibreglass, which I will do next winter...

If I remember right, Eric's car is still about 90kg lighter than yours. He needed to bolt-in lead to meet Spec minimum weight. He is also no featherweight driver. Keep digging. There is more gold to be mined from that chassis.

Yeah we ended up at about 2400lbs on our BSR's. The Boxster S transmission is about 40lbs heavier though. My roof is a bit lighter than factory hardtop too. No window glass, no motors or lifter assembly, no door wiring harness, and gutted the steel in the doors

Now that I'm out of spec, I'll be adding carbon cup car doors and a lexan windshield to start off. Maybe some other composite panels in the near future. But I also added the 6 speed transmission so I'll be gaining a few back.

Good to see you still running Eric (I keep following on Facebook), please keep us posted on progress - I am following in your shadow as the regulations over here are much more relaxed that for you, and I will be doing some of the same stuff as you in the future...

We have some small restrictions on what we can change on the car, but the only class specification is kg/bhp. So I am free to lighten the car as much as I want and to upgrade the engine as well - only impact is that I will change class...

Yes, the Boxster S is heavier. But I do have some plans for what I will seek to do before next season (time and cash permitting), and some that are already in plan during this season. Bottom line is to get the car down from a kg/bhp at 5 to a kg/bhp close to 4 which is the limit in the class I am running in at the moment. I think that with a mix between reducing weight and some engine upgrades I should be able to get there

Please let me know if you are putting any of the parts that you are removing from the Boxster up for sale, as I might be very interested in some of them...

So, last weekend was the 3rd race in the Porsche Sports Cup Scandinavia in Finland. We were again back at Ahvenisto, which is a great track to race on.

I had some good fights with competitors for both start one and start two, but in the end finished both starts 1st in class and 3rd overall.

We are now half way threw the season and I am leading with 43 points in the season - http://cms.porsche-clubs.com/PorscheClubs/prc_finland/files/2012%20sarjataulukko.pdf

Glad to hear the car his holding together.

When racing, what would be the lifespan of the transmission? Do you run a oil cooler on it?

Not sure how long the transmission will last - it is holding on good still

I am actually going to change it soon, but will give more details closer to the time - but not due to issues with the one that is in the car now, it is an upgrade as such!

I do not run a cooler on the transmission, but might consider it in the future.

Just realised that it is a long time since I last posted an update on my racing fun on here. Figured it was time to give an update and try to keep this up-to-date

So, my last post was early in in the 2012 season after the crash at Ahvenisto. To shorten the story and get us closer and up-to-date. I and the CoolCava Racing team had a great season. As a team we took 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall in the Sports Cup and 2nd overall in the GT3 Cup Trophy. Personally I took 1st in class and 2nd overall which I think is not to bad for my 2nd year racing

The not so bad part was that during the season I had two accidents. The first one I noted in the other thread when I took a corner wrong and ended up in the tire wall. The second time was another driver that failed to take a corner and drove straight into the side of my car. So by the end of the season I had damage to both sides of my car This is how my car looked by the end of the 2012 season...

But as someone who does try to always look on the bright side, I decided to see this as an opportunity for improvements, and generated a nice long project list for the winter and to get ready for the 2013 season - which starts at the end of next week

During the winter I did the following with the help from some great friends:
.- reprogrammed the DME with a race focused tune - will dyno next Monday.
.- Removed the factory 6 speed transmission and installed a 5 speed for better gearing.
.- Installed custom KW racing suspension

.- Installed a load of nice suspension upgrades from Tarett and ER

.- Got new (wider) wheels

And a long list with smaller upgrades, and repairs including several alterations to the bodywork - I did after all have crash damage to fix.

If we now move to current status, the car is all ready for first race excluding getting the livery installed which is still getting cut... Here is some current pictures.

Spent all day yesterday testing the car at Ahvenisto before first race of the season on Saturday. The car is running really good. Here is a video from the afternoon - Testing the CoolCava Racing Boxster S before 2013 season start - YouTube

Don't know if rules allow it, but I make a short ratio ring and pinion set for the 5spd gearbox...

Thank you Matt, could you PM me some more details and price please?

So the weekend just gone was the start of the 2013 season in Finland with race 1 and 2 at Botniaring.

The weather was really good with sun and +15 in temp.

I discovered a problem during practice and had to stop early to get things fixed - the car was not behaving properly and did not feel correct. Took us quite some time to find the issue, but in the end we discovered that the right rear Elephant Racing control arm had come lose and had worked its way out to extreme camber and with it had given me some stupid amount of tow out on that wheel

One issue was that we could not find correct size spanners to sort it properly (they were all at home in the garage ), so we did the best we could to get it all back and tight and I ventured out again. We could not wind it in properly, so I ended up running the weekend with one rear wheel with way to much tow out!!!

Here we are trying to get things sorted out

But even with the problems on the rear wheel, the results were good At the end of the day, I took 1st in class and 4th overall in race 1, and 1st in class and 1st overall in race 2

A good start to the 2013 season!!!

In car video from race 1 can be found on the CoolCava Racing YouTube - CoolCava Racing Boxster - Porsche PRCF Sports Cup Race 1 - 2013 at Botniaring - YouTube
