Lap timers
 

I'm looking to get an in car lap timer this winter. I'm not looking for one of those expensive data acquisition devices. Just a lap timer, if one broke down track sections it would be nice but not necessary. What do you guys recommend in the $250 range. Maybe I can get Santa to hook me up. thanks

Do you have an iphone? If so the Harry's Lap Timer with the Emprum GPS unit is a great lap timer, takes video that you can overlap, and can be easily transferred to an Ipad to quickly compare info. I already have an iphone and an ipad so it was a no brainer for me. It's also very accurate. It has a couple of downsides, like video only recording every other lap. It's definitely worth the small cost.

It's a little more than your budget, but really look at the Aim SOLO. It's a great unit and the ability to use their Race Studio 2 software puts it far above many other similar devices. There are lot of optoins out there. If you want to learn something about data acquisition before you buy something, check out TrailBrake.net - Home. There is a ton of info there and some references to books that will help you figure out what is important to have as well.

Pete! I didn't look at the location to realize it was you.

Yes, NCR allows timers. A number of us (around 6) have the SOLO units and have been sharing data. Also, Jerry Austin who is an AIM dealer is giving NCR members a great deal on them. You can email Jerry at jandsaustin1@verizon.net to get the pricing from him (make sure to tell him your an NCR member and I sent you;)). He's on his way to PRI and then Daytona for the weekend, so it might take him a day or two to get back to you.
