What To Do With Outdated Helmets
I've got a near new looking Bell open face helmet with visor that is outdated for use in AX and DE. I hate to just toss it in the trash so what else can be done with them? Is there a recycler? Donation? Suggestions/recommendations?

I sold mine on Fleebay. I clearly stated and pictured the stamps and tags. It was in mint condition, just out of spec for DEs. I stated so in my advert. Got about $50 for it. guy who bought it put it on his kid for back yard atv stuff. Better than nuttin' on your head!

I use mine for indoor karting. However your open face helmet may not pass, since the karting facility typically requires a face shield or safety goggles (if using a motocross helmet).

Sometimes the local PCA regions will take "donations" perhaps for use in their AX program. As mentioned selling them can be good too.. imho, if its out of date for "my purposes" I can't imagine someone else wanting it.. buying a used helmet seems a little suspect because you really can't tell how many times its been dropped or damaged.
My last expeired one (snell 2000) I just pitched in the garbage. Seemed fitting. |
Make a cool lamp out of it for the workshop?

My old helmets become display art :)
I had all the Porsche Factory drivers (And "Guest" RS Spyder drivers) sign them.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1328571461.jpg |
closed face helmets make good donations to your local race clubs, so they can be used by fire marshalls, pit monitors in enduros. These clubs typically clearly mark them as fire helmets so they don't end up on track
Also, as posted earlier, they are good for auto x use in lower speed events, where the organizers allow them. |
