fuel cell mount question

Most people build a frame of some kind and secure the cell in it with wide steel bands suitably bolted in place.
But I see the occasional installation with no bands, i.e. the top is completely clear except for the hoses and electrics. Obviously the cell is secured at the bottom, but how?
Pull it apart and bolt thru the case? Small L brackets? Something cleverer?

Those cells are typically the porsche specific ones that have tabs connecting to the stock mounting points. I've never seen a "generic" one that didn't have straps, there is no provision unless you welded something on.

I would NOT bolt through the shell. Those cells above use different designs to accomodate for better mounting points and have a thicker bottom and welded sections.

You're probably right. I'm looking at a pic of a tank without straps in Mitch Rossi's "Building the Ultimate Porsche..." and it sure looks like a generic Fuel Safe tank. It looks that way because it sticks way up above the smuggler's box sheetmetal and is not strapped. But it's 100 liters/27 gallons so it couldn't fit in nicely like the custom 17 gallon unit does. Thanks, Jim

Is this the picture?:

If it is, that is the 100 liter endurance tank designed to fit in the stock tank location using the stock tank mounting points.

Buy one From Chris Streit!!

Buy one from Chris Streit and install yourself !!! Best bang for the buck The ones designed to fit the cutout of the original tank are extremely expensive and not worth it imho. Chris was extremely helpful with design, fitting and plumbing the whole thing even a duffer like myself could do it easily. (my cheesy welds are easily hidden by a quick pass with the grinding wheel) ... but it is very sturdy and a solid product . Thanks Chris for a great help. Frank

Hey Jim,
I wish I went bigger on my Fuel Cell. As you know, I keep running out of gas on those darn Enduros! I need a 15 gallon, or 17 gallon instead of my 12.

Chad, as I've suggested many times, if you will just slow down to a reasonable speed, say like mine, you could make it thru with your 12 gallon Doing Willow in Nov? I'll be there.

Agree...I opted for a smaller tank based in part on weight concerns, but now I wish I had more capacity.
